There has been some good and bad news on plans to construct a third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.
While, I am not convinced it will happen, many believe it is supposed to, including Israel’s Temple Institute. The building of a third temple is the ultimate goal of this organization made up of Orthodox Jews.
The Temple Institute has constructed all the furniture necessary for a third Temple (except the Ark of the Covenant). It is also training priests and as part of this actively seeking a red heifer, necessary for the purification ritual for the priests.
In September 2022, the Temple Institute brought over five red heifers to Israel from America, with hopes one would be suitable.
The heifer is burnt on an altar and its ashes are mixed with water and sprinkled on priests. Without this ritual, priests are not allowed to minister in the Temple.
The ashes from this sacrifice can be stored and used for years.
But if you believe the construction of a third Jewish temple is necessary for the fulfillment of end-times prophecy, there is some good and bad news.
First the Bad News, All Five Red Heifers are Disqualified for Sacrifice
The Institute just announced that all five red heifers are now disqualified for the sacrifice. According to Israel365 News, they have all developed more than one off-colored hair.
According to Jewish tradition, the animals can only have one discolored hair. Anymore and it is no longer suitable.
Before the animals were shipped to Israel, a Jewish Rabbi actually inspected the animals with a magnifying glass to verify their purity. But as they aged, discolored hairs have since emerged.
The Temple Institute has been actively pursuing a red heifer suitable for the sacrifice for the past 20 years. It added that a larger budget would be needed to guarantee it can find a suitable red heifer in the future.
There has also been significant opposition to the purchase of these red heifers from both inside and outside of Israel.
In a televised statement in early 2024, a spokesperson for Hamas’ Izz ad-Din Al-Qassam Brigades announced that the Oct 7, 2023 attack on Israel, was in part sparked by the acquisition of the five red heifers a year earlier.
He warned that the construction of a Jewish Temple would result in the destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque located on the Temple Mount.
Now the Good News, the Mysterious Appearance of Road Signs
Maybe I am overstating the good news. But according to Micheal Snyder in an article for Charisma News, mysterious road signs are appearing around Jerusalem pointing in the direction to the House of the Lord.
This is a reference to the Jewish Temple, that they believe will eventually be built on the Temple Mount.

These signs are not being put up by the Israeli government. They are being put up by a group of Orthodox Jews.
But they are professionally produced and mimic the authorized street signs that they are being attached too.
Snyder adds:
The buzz surrounding the idea of a ‘Third Temple’ seems to have gone up a notch. Unofficial road signs are appearing, directing people to “The House of the Lord.” They may be made by rogue sign makers in a guerilla operation, but their very existence signifies that something major is brewing.
Never far from the minds of many Orthodox Jews, the reconstruction of the Temple is something promised in scripture several times in both the Old and New Testaments. What was once dismissed as the pipe dream of fringe radicals is now beginning to crystallize into a tangible possibility within our lifetime – especially amid current discussions of previously unimaginable peace agreements.
Though the signs have not been officially approved, Snyder states that it’s curious that they were not immediately pulled down by Israeli officials. This may suggest some level of unofficial government support for its construction.
“Personally, I don’t see how construction could possibly start until some sort of a peace agreement is reached and the war in the Middle East finally comes to an end,” Snyder added.
There are two Muslim building on the Temple Mount, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock
The Temple Mount is referred to as Mount Zion in the Bible, and was the location of the first two Jewish Temples.
Some believe the Al-Aqsa Mosque is built over the original site of the last Jewish Temple destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. Others suspect the Dome of the Rock is.
Either way, there is still room for a Jewish temple on the site.
