I am not going to pretend for a moment I understand this, but researchers from the US and Russia claim they have reversed time. No this did not involve Back to the Future’s DMC DeLorean time machine, it was part of an experiment involving the bizarre world of quantum physics.
We live in a linear world. We all chug down the same path getting older. We can’t stop that process. We can’t reverse time and get younger.
But it seems that the rules that govern our world don’t apply in the world of Quantum physics involving the bizarre subatomic world inside atoms.
Their experiments, published in Scientific Reports, involved “wave” study. Basically subatomic particles travel out like waves do on water when you toss in a rock. The more time that passes, the further away the waves are from their original starting point.
This same rules apply to particles. However, in their experiment the group was able to reverse this process, and have the particle appear at its starting point instead of where it should have been.
They basically caused a broken teacup to return to its original form, before it was broken. They are not suggesting that they necessarily reversed time, or maybe they did.
Physicist Itzhak Bars from the University of Southern California (USC) has a theory. He believes there is another dimension of time. In an interview with The Telegraph, Bar said “There isn’t just one dimension of time. There are two. One whole dimension of time and another of space have until now gone entirely unnoticed by us.”
Essentially, he believes there is another realm or space, where time works differently. Bar goes on to say in that realm “time is no longer a simple line from the past to the future.”
Though his opinion is not widely accepted among physicist, because it could lead to time travel, Bars believes his theory explain some of the major conflicts in Quantum physics.
But this discussion leads us to some interesting Bible passages. The Bible says there is another realm besides our physical realm. It is called the spiritual world where God and His angels exist. And it seems that this realm is governed by different rules of time.
The Apostle Peter writes:
8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. (2 Peter 3:8 NASV)
God exists in a timeless realm where one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like one day. It is a realm where there is no linear time as we know it and the past, present and future are all merged into one.
Oddly, this may have been exactly what Jesus was referring to in several strange statements recorded in the Gospels:
18 Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18 NASV)
23 If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them [literally ‘have previously been forgiven’]; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.” (John 20:23 NASV)
In these verses, Jesus says if we bind something in the present world, they will have previously been bound. So this makes me wonder if the actions we take in our physical, linear world can have a profound reversing impact in the spiritual dimension where there is no time. If this is true, it may have an impact on spiritual warfare.
Then Jesus says if we forgive someone in the present, they will have previously been forgiven in the past. This implies in the spiritual realm the forgiveness extended to those who offended us goes back to the moment it happened or even before, making it like it never took place. Since Satan has the authority to influence us when we don’t forgive (2 Corinthians 2:10-11), this may also have a spiritual warfare aspect to it.
And maybe this is what the Apostle Paul was talking about when he says that Christ is seated at the right hand of God and all things are subject to Jesus (Ephesians 1:19-23).
And then Paul adds that we as believers are now seated with Christ (Ephesians 2:6).
Now I have looked at sitting with Christ in a linear fashion and thought it pointed ahead to the end of the age.
But in the spiritual realm, where time does not exist, Paul is saying that future event has already happened and is happening now. We may be walking around on earth, but in the spiritual realm, we are already seated with Christ.
Which leaves us with this question: what reality will you believe?
