Is Russia’s first missile attack against Israel and the appearance of a Super Blood Moon a coincidence?

When looking at the Bible’s end times prophecy one thing keeps showing up, blood moons. The prophet Joel refers to a blood moon appearing before the great and terrible day of the Lord (Joel 2:31). As well, the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John’s vision of end times events, speaks of a Blood Moon (Revelation 6:12).

But Blood Moons are a regular occurrence and take place when the Sun’s light is reflected through the earth’s atmosphere during a lunar eclipse. Some describe it as the red of an earth’s sunset appearing on the moon.

So because of that, Blood Moons in themselves are only significant in Biblical end times as they appear along with other events. Joel speaks of columns of smoke (Joel 2:30) that suggests volcanic activity in association with the Blood Moon and the Book of Revelation speaks of a great earthquake and the world being pummeled with either meteors or asteroids along with its Blood Moon.

So when an article on Foxnews, announced there will be a rare “super blood moon” appearing overnight on January 20 and 21, 2019, I was interested.  Also called a “wolf moon,” because of its appearance during the winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is referred to as a “super blood moon” as it will appear 30% brighter and 14% larger because it takes place when the moon is at its shortest distance from earth.

This particular blood moon will show up for over an hour starting at 11:21 PM on January 20 and ending shortly after midnight on the 21st.  It will be visible to millions of people in both North and South America as well people living in parts of Europe and Africa.

But as I mentioned earlier, blood moons on their own are not significant.

But then I read another article from an Israeli website, Breaking Israel News, on Russia threatening Israel with missile attacks.

On Christmas Day, Israel launched an airstrike inside Syria destroying three sites that Iran was using to supply arms to the terrorist group Hezbollah that has been launching hundreds of missiles against Israel in recent months.  In particular, Israel was after GPS-guided missiles that the terrorist group has used.

In a statement released to the press, Russian Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov described Israel’s attack as “provocative” and threatened that Russia would respond with missile strikes inside Israel. According to one military website, Debka File, Russia actually fired a SA5-missile, that evaded Israel’s anti missile defense system, hitting an unpopulated area near Mt Carmel.

So is there any Biblical significance to what is essentially Russia’s first attack on Israel and a Super Blood Moon? Maybe.

Two prophets Daniel and Ezekiel warned that in the end times nations would ally to attack Israel.

Ezekiel talks about God and Magog being part of this confederation. In chapter 38:15, the prophet describes Magog as being a country in the “remotes part of the far North.” Of course, Russia would perfectly fit this description.

Further, Ezekiel refers to “Rosh” as being part of Magog an odd name found only in Ezekiel. Could this be a reference to Russia as some suggest?

38 And the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him (Ezekiel 38:1 NASV)

Daniel took a slightly different approach about these end time events and in chapter 7 speaks of a nation that he described as a “bear” attacking Israel:

And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, ‘Arise, devour much meat!’ (Daniel 7:4 NASV)

The bear has long been a symbol for modern Russia and is often used as a sports symbol as the country did during the 1980 Olympics and soccer matches. And though it was never carried out, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the formation of modern Russia, some politicians wanted the bear included in the country’s coat of arms.

Russia’s president Vladimir Putin is also leader of the United Russia Party which has a bear in its logo.

It seems bears and Russia are closely linked.

So is Russia’s missile attack on Israel and the coming appearance of a Super Blood Moon a warning of what is to come or just a coincidence?
