Charles Darwin, Climate Change Denier

Here’s a vocabulary lesson: uniformitarianism, catastrophism, received orthodoxy, the channeled scablands. Believe it or not, the ideas behind these words can help us to understand our modern world. Some of the worst arguments in the news should be explained, and these words can do that. Charles Darwin is the originator of the theory of evolution, with his book, “The Origin of the Species.” Darwin is described as a scientist, but his education, at Cambridge University, was preparing to become a minister in the Church of England. Today, this would be like an education in a Bible College, or a Seminary. He wasn’t really educated as a scientist. Darwin gave us a universe without God, where life originated from natural forces, and then evolved into the life forms that we have now, including us. Darwin’s ideas have become received orthodoxy. To most scientists, they are so obviously true that they don’t need to be proven, they must be believed. They are beyond debate, and people, like creationists, who believe God is the creator, are dangerous lunatics. …

Eugenics: Should we breed the best people?

Are you well-bred? Do you know people who are ill-bred? Do you respect your betters? Does your family get the respect that it deserves? This is another line of questioning: The first questions come from popular thinking that is more than a hundred years old. The last two are modern. Where does thinking like this come from, besides someone’s imagination? One old source is Social Darwinism. When Charles Darwin published his ideas about “The Origin of the Species” he looked back in time, to the beginning of life. Darwin’s ideas were retrospective, he directed us back in time, to origins. He had a theory about where we came from. Charles Darwin’s ideas were very popular, and evolutionary thinking came to us like a revolution. I believe one reason for the popularity of Darwin’s backward-looking ideas, is that some people looked forward. In England, for example, people saw classes in society; as superior upper classes, who were born to rule, and the inferior lower, and working classes, who needed to know their place. That is ancient …

Creation or Evolution? What are the fossils telling us?

Brasilodon: That sounds like the name for something old, like a fossil. Scientists recently analyzed fossil teeth from an ancient lizard skeleton, that was excavated in Brazil. In geological time, this little lizard lived when the first dinosaurs appeared, about 225 million years ago. The geological era is known as the Early Triassic, not long after the Permian-Triassic mass extinction event, which seemed to allow the dinosaurs to dominate the Earth. According to scientists, that event was the greatest mass extinction ever. The estimate is that more than 70% of land animals and more than 90% of the species in the oceans, died out. The analysis of the tooth from a fossil Brasilodon showed something interesting. That little animal was not a lizard, it was a mammal. It is described as “shrew-like” which means it was the size and shape of a rat. So, why does this matter? This information is Earth-shattering. One little animal, that looked like a rat, could change our understanding of where life came from. Darwin would struggle to explain this …

Evolution: Do we have to believe?

We all know Charles Darwin, but have you heard about Darwin’s doubts? Apparently, Charles Darwin, with his theory of evolution, expected scientists to find evidence that proved his theory. He did not know how some parts of evolution occurred, but he expected the evidence to be found. Now, we have skeptics, who want to change Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. Darwin lived and worked during the 1800s when religion was important and powerful. His famous book “On the Origin of Species” was published in 1859, and the world has never been the same. Religious people don’t like a theory that claims life is an accident, with no God to create it. Atheists see Darwin’s theory as settled or established science, and as proof that they are correct. For them, God did not create life, and they believe there is no God. It all fits for them. For believers, Darwin is a problem. Settled or established science means we really can’t question the ideas; they are accepted as facts by reputable scientists. I used to work in …

Creation? Are we still talking about that?

Are you a Creationist? Do you believe that God made this world? Or do you believe that it all evolved? And what about Noah and his ark? The opening words of the Bible are “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) We don’t have many options. Science is on the side of evolution, and religion is on the side of God and creation. It is hard to be on both sides at once, and the Bible falls apart if we remove the part where God started it all. I am a Christian, and I know that this topic divides people. I am concerned about the stressful times we are in, now, with a COVID Pandemic, and a war in Ukraine, and who knows what is coming next. I believe we should pray and ask God for help and direction. That God is the one who created the Universe. I also believe we need to get back to the God who made us, and we should read the owners’ manual. But, …

Sharper than a two-edged rat?

Everyone hates a dull knife. But there may be some good news, as Creation Moments reports that two engineers came up with a new blade that keeps its sharp edge six times longer than normal blades. They designed the blades to cut metal. And even when it came to cutting titanium, one of the world’s hardest metals, which dulled the old blades in a matter of seconds, the new blade kept its edge for nearly 30 minutes. How did they do this? All they did was copy the design that God used when he created the teeth of rats, which consistently maintain a sharp edge. Rats are able to do this because one side of their teeth is softer than the other side, allowing it to maintain a sharp edge even with wear. READ: Technological secrets from God

Sirius disrupts astronomers

Sirius B is a white dwarf star about 8.6 light years away. It is about the same size as our sun. Because Sirius B is a white dwarf star, this means it is in the process of collapsing and according to prevailing astronomical theories it takes about 100,000 years for a red star to transform into a white star. But there is a huge problem and according to Creation Moments, Sirius B was part of a major discussion at a conference at Louisiana State University in 1978. Sirius B is disrupting these long held evolutionary theories on the formation of the universe, because archaeological records indicate that Sirius B was a red star just 2,000 years ago. Creation Moments explains: Records of Egyptian astronomers dating back to 2,000 BC describe Sirius B as a red star. The Roman senator Cicero, writing in 50 BC, also said Sirius B was red. And Seneca described Sirius as being redder than Mars. And in 150 AD, Ptolemy, one of the most famous astronomers in history, listed Sirius as …

The squid that stared down evolutionists

Modern squid have a sack in their body full of ink that they will squirt out to distract their enemy if they are being pursued, and according to evolutionists, squid have allegedly had that same defence mechanism for over a hundred million years. But Apologetics Press recently had an article about a unique drawing of a squid (see below): It wasn’t necessarily a great depiction, but it is very unusual in one respect, as the drawing was created with ink found in a fossilized squid allegedly 150 million years old. While the rest of the squid was fossilized in rock, the ink contained in a “soft and sloppy” ink sack was still usable. According to Apologetics Press, Phil Wilby, the man who made the discovery, had a few things to say about this remarkable find: “Normally you would find only the hard parts like the shell and bones fossilized but there are a handful of locations around the world where soft preservation of the muscle, guts and gills has taken place.” “[It] can be dissected …

Human Origins: What are scientists saying about cave men?

A few stories get into the news, and stay there. Right now, that is mostly COVID and vaccinations, and violence in South Africa, and you can add to the list … We are flooded with news stories, all day and every day, and it’s impossible to keep up. In all the news-noise, it’s easy to miss some interesting stories. For example; did you know that “Just 7 percent of our DNA is unique to modern humans”? I expect that busy people everywhere will skip that piece of news. It’s more important to argue about a pandemic, or violence in the streets. What we might miss is something about God, and how we got here. If there is a God, and if we can live under His care, our problems become smaller. If we are evolved from something that formed when lightning struck an ancient pond filled with mineral water, we have to cope on our own, somehow. That is not a small story. Recently, some scientists published research about human evolution. They have evidence that …

COVID and Evolution – What is wrong with this picture?

Darwin’s Theory of Evolution gave us a universe with no God, and no possibility that God could exist. If life started by accident, probably in a drop of water, and then evolved to become many species, there is no place for God in the story. And this story is taught to us and our children in most of the world. This is not a small thing. Most people believe in some divine being or force, and science tells us we are wrong. What should a believer do? There is an old question that is interesting to evolutionists: ‘Why do we have an appendix?’ That tiny organ in our bodies has no known purpose, and it is dangerous when it becomes infected. Probably someone has an answer to the question, or at least a good theory. Another question that we should answer is: ‘Why do we have appendicitis?’ If we are the end product of millions or billions of years of evolution, why do we have such frail bodies? If doctors didn’t remove inflamed appendixes, people …

What’s happening with Darwin’s evolution?

In 1859 Charles Darwin published his book “The Origin of the Species” and he described what we call his “Theory of Evolution.” Today Darwin is described as a “naturalist” because he was interested in natural things, but “Naturalist” was not really a profession. Charles Darwin was educated at Cambridge University and his professional training could be described as theology or divinity. He was trained and qualified to be a minister in the Church of England, and he was similar to a graduate of a Bible College today. His theory of evolution gave us a universe without God; a place where life emerged from nothing and evolved into what we have today, through natural processes. It was a way to explain the creation without the creator. We can read Darwin’s book as theology, and not just biology. I think we all know there is a religious argument in the theory of evolution. Sometimes, when I’m driving in traffic, I see a fish symbol on another car. That is supposed to mean the driver is a Christian, …

Lessons from Nothing

Nothing. Scientists claim that everything came from nothing. But they have a hard time describing nothing or where it came from or why it was there. Nothing is crucial to their Big Bang Theory which is man’s attempt at explaining what God did without actually saying God did it. As you can imagine, this takes a lot of work and a lot of words. People have talked about nothing ever since. Probably before that as well. But to build a whole science of nothing is absolutely brilliant. You can’t prove anything, so there really never is an end to this body of esteemed literature. It just goes on and on, with loads of grants and support dedicated to the cause of nothing. Anything goes, just so long as you ignore the truth. It gets even better with the theory of evolution. According to this great tidbit of wisdom, all life came from pond scum. This is hard to believe so you need to be really knowledgeable about nothing. You see, nothing created the universe and …

Video: Is Genesis history?

This video is definitely worth a watch if you want to get a different side of the story of the creation and evolution debate. Well produced. If nothing else, watch the first two minutes. I found their explanation of the worldwide flood fascinating. One Christian geologist believes the massive mountain ranges were created after and by the flood. I did a podcast recently on dinosaurs and pulled one verse out of Genesis to explain why the dinosaurs disappeared., an no there demise wasn’t caused by a flood.

Why a group of Oxford researchers told us to quit looking for alien life?

A group of researchers from Oxford University’s Future of Humanity Institute recently released a paper telling people to quit hoping and looking for life on other planets because what happened on earth was so rare, so impossible and required so much luck, it basically could not be repeated. Of course, they were speaking from an evolutionary perspective. They described the chances of life forming on another planet as “exceptionally rare” because it required a series of events and transitions that were so complicated, it is basically impossible to repeat. The group was addressing those who believe with an estimated 400 billions stars and 100 billion planets in our galaxy alone, there must be millions of civilizations similar to us in the universe. According to an article in the Daily Mail, the biological statisticians from Oxford used a technique called “Bayesian analysis” to statistically calculate what the chances were of life emerging on other planets from non-organic matter, evolving the ability to sexually reproduce and to develop intelligence. Their conclusion, quit looking. They added that the …

Homo Stupidus? Maybe not.

An evolutionary scientist called Neanderthals (cave men) “Homo Stupidus” because evolutionary theory requires others to be inferior and stupid, and we must be the most evolved, the best and brightest. Now, evolutionary scientists are telling us that these other humans were just like us. It’s as if we were all made by God. This is one of many recent articles that presents ancient ‘cave men’ as people just like us, and not inferior or less evolved. It’s a major trend in the study of ancient life, and it contradicts and erodes Darwin’s ideas about the origin of the species. The oldest humans or hominids that we know were equal to us, and this idea is coming from evolutionary researchers. READ: The Neanderthals Fiber String math

Human Evolution and Ugly Racism

Morphogenesis: This scientific word describes a straight path. Until recently, the science of human evolution was dominated by the philosophy of Morphogenesis, ‘a linear path to a predetermined end,’ the idea that evolution was predictable and consistent, and that it changed living things from simple and primitive to sophisticated and more desirable. The most evolved life form was always the best, and the least evolved was undesirable and deserved extinction. So, newer is better. Fossils showed us the remains of organisms that went extinct, like the dinosaurs, and we were told that they died out because they were less fit. Extinction happens when something better comes along. Morphogenesis can look backward, to trace the trail of species that evolved and went extinct, up until now. It can tell us how we got here, and it can also look into the future, to show us how to guide the evolution of life to better, more desirable forms. Forward looking morphogenesis is scary, and it mostly ended with World War II. Did you know that Hitler was …

Did God Evolve?

Evolutionists sometimes discuss the function of the appendix. What is the purpose of that small thing in our body, and why did it evolve? A similar topic is; why do we have religion, the worship of God? Religion is like a spiritual appendix, we can’t explain why it evolved, but it seems to be in everyone. Recently, a writer for the BBC commented on the development, or evolution of religion, among humans. RELATED: Do humans have a religion instinct? If we start with the belief that the universe started from energy, with a “Big Bang” explosion, and then life emerged through some natural accident, the most advanced species today is a large ape, us. If you believe, you will see. We can picture apes in a tree with a sense that something in the world is bigger than them. After millions of years of evolution, that vague sense of something could become a god that we worship. If people are the result of evolution, so is God. In the article, this evolution of religious thought …

Did Scientists Just Discover the Creation?

Recently, some scientists have been describing the origins of life on the Earth with language that is almost biblical. This is the strange case of secular scientists discovering something the Bible described thousands of years ago. If there is one thing that separates science from religion, it’s the story of creation, or the origins of life on Earth. Charles Darwin published his theory of The Origin of the Species in November of 1859. Since then, secular science has removed God from our origins. Before that time, most people believed that God, or some divine force that created life. Darwin is commonly called a “naturalist” but really he first apprenticed as a medical Doctor, and then trained as a minister for the Church of England. The young naturalist was a theologian, and I believe his theory of evolution (Origin of the Species) described a universe without God. Removing God was very important for the theologian; the God scientist. Here is an accelerated summary of billions of years of natural history according to Darwin and his followers: …

Gone Bananas

I’m only sixty percent bananas! Woohoo! And my family said I was one hundred percent bonkers! Actually, I am a bit more than sixty percent but I’ll take it. Especially since I am more bananas than chicken. I guess a crazy person who isn’t chicken is pretty scary, so I better explain this one. A friend of mine ordered one of those DNA tests to find out about her roots and what wonderful diseases to which she can look forward when she gets old. Apparently, she will be a healthy old broad. Then I remembered some old science that claimed we had something like ninety-six percent similar DNA to a chimpanzee. Of course, the evolutionists thought this was great since it proved we came from apes which came from some other animal, etc until you got to pond scum. So the bottom line is we are all evolved pond scum. Except I don’t want to be pond scum! I looked at the similarities between the DNA of humans and other things like chimps and bananas. …

Transformed!

I remember as a boy living in Shellbrook, a small Saskatchewan town, walking down the main street when a butterfly fluttered in front of me. Almost instantly it was set upon by a sparrow. What followed was an aero-acrobatic display. Though the sparrow was clearly faster, the butterfly was incredibly elusive. It swooped up and down to avoid captures. Sharp turns left, then right. Darting in every direction as the bird repeatedly dove in to catch it. And the sparrow was always a second too late, biting at air as the butterfly made another erratic move with a brain barely as large as a dot on an “i.” Then just as suddenly as it started, it was over. The bird broke off its unsuccessful chase and landed at the top of the one-story building I was walking by. I could see its beak open, as it breathed heavily trying to catch its breath. The butterfly continued its flight as if nothing had happened. It was such an acrobatic display because the butterfly has two sets …

Oops, that wasn’t supposed to happen: genetic study unravels evolutionary theory

A study produced by two geneticists Mark Stoeckle from New York’s Rockefeller University and David Thaler from Switzerland’s University of Baler concluded that 90% of animals came into existence at the same time as humans and relatively recently. This conclusion seriously challenges the theory of evolution that requires millions of years for animals to slowly evolve, with man being the climax of the evolutionary cycle. In their study published in the Human Evolution journal, the two geneticists examined the “DNA barcodes” of 100,000 species of animals stored in GenBank, a genetic data base operated by the American government. Based on this study, the two concluded that animals appeared at the same time as humans about 100,000 to 200,000 years ago. Though there may be some dispute on the dating, their study nevertheless confirms the Biblical account that says humans and animals were created at the same time on the fifth day. In an interview with Christian Headlines, Ken Ham founder of the creationist organization Answers in Genesis suggested the age numbers were inflated by evolutionary …

Lake Naivashu in Kenya's rift valley, a new continent in the making? Credit: Angela Sevin/Flickr/Creative Commons

Another great split?

Scientists are reporting on the formation of a massive crack in Africa that may result in the continent splitting in half. They don’t believe it will happen in our lifetime, but expect it could happen at some point in the far future. According to an article in the Daily Mail, the lithosphere made up of the earth’s outer crust and upper mantle has tectonic plates floating underneath. Post Doctoral researcher Lucia Perez Diaz, who works with the Fault Dynamics Research Group,  says these plates can rupture creating a rift that results in a separate tectonic plate that would essentially create a new continent. They believe that such a rift is starting to occur in south-western Kenya. The crack is now 3,000 kms long and extends from the Gulf of Aden in the North to Zimbabwe in the South. This crack even resulted in the collapse of a stretch of the Nairobi-Narok highway. Diaz described the large crack’s appearance as “sudden.” If this crack continues to move southward, it would essentially spit the African tectonic plate …

Bodies by Design

In Psalm 95:6 David opens his heart and declares “Come let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord God our Maker, for He is our God…” David had the revelation that we were created, intricately crafted by the masters hand. Three thousand years have now past and scientists are continually amazed at the complexity in the design of our bodies. When you consider our brain consists of approximately 12 billion cells, with 120 trillion interconnections allowing us to see and do amazing things. And when you also consider the human eye with its 10 million photoreceptor cells in the retina that are so complex, it would take a Cray supercomputer a minimum of 100 years to simulate what takes place in the eye several times per second. Not to mention the 20 feet of blood vessels intricately woven into every square inch of skin and the 72 feet of nerve fiber in each square inch of our hands. The list of masterful design goes on and on. The blueprints that map …

Hindus, Muslims, and Human Evolution

Something is happening in the world, and it’s like storm clouds gathering. On January 20, India’s Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Mr. Satyapal Singh made statements that were critical of Darwinian Evolution, including has belief that the subject should not be taught in schools in India. RELATED: India’s Education Minister Slammed After Claiming That Evolution Is ‘Scientifically Wrong’ About six months before that, the government of Turkey made similar statements. RELATED: Evolution Will No Longer Be Taught in Turkish Schools India is governed by religious Hindus, and Turkey is governed by religious Muslims. They don’t have the same religious beliefs, but something about Darwinian Evolution really bothers both groups. It’s one thing they agree on. It’s easy for English-speaking westerners to think they are the leaders in human progress, but there are other voices. Darwin’s theory for the origin of the species, evolution, is a logic escalator. In a department store, you don’t need to climb the stairs, you only need to make one small step and the machine will carry you to …

Human Evolution in 2017

“It takes just as much faith to be an atheist as it does to be a religious believer. I don’t point to the Bible to prove this, but rather to the universe.” — Mick Mooney, Why I’d Still Believe In God Did you know, our picture of the world changed in the year 2017, in a big way? I am writing this in early 2018, and some science writers are looking back in shock and awe. For example, when I was a boy, public schools and libraries and publications like “Scientific American” and “National Geographic” gave one orthodox picture of humans who are apes that climbed down from trees and walked on the planes of Africa, and evolved into us. This was science, and there was no other way, and for sure there was no God. I was a Christian who went to church every Sunday, and I also studied and worked in a large university. My first degree was in Anthropology, the driver of human evolution ideas. I learned to keep my head down …

RNA strand Credit: Vossman/Wikipedia/Creative Commons

Blinded by a theory?

It has been a problem that has haunted evolutionists for years — how did ribonucleic acid (RNA) evolve? According to the RNA Society, “Ribonucleic acid, or RNA is one of the three major biological macromolecules that are essential for all known forms of life (along with DNA and proteins).” It is a required cog for producing enzymes. However, there was a major evolutionary problem. Since RNA requires its own enzymes to replicate, it was impossible for RNA to evolve without enzymes. It was the old what came first — the chicken or the egg. Since the enzyme could only be created by RNA and it could only replicate with the enzyme, both had to spontaneously appear at exactly the same time for it to evolve. It sounds more like creation than evolution. But in 2016 Nobel Prize laureate Jack Szostak, a genetics professor at Harvard Medical School,  wrote a paper stating he had discovered how RNA replicated without the required enzyme paving the way for its evolution. It was a ground-breaking announcement that fell in …

The Eve Gene

Have you ever wished that you could travel back through time? Most of us, if not all of us, have daydreamed about just such a thing. Growing up with movies like “Time Tunnel” and “Back to the Future” have fueled our imaginations. Today using genetic science we can get a glimpse of our past by stepping back in time, not through a  mystic portal or modified sports car but through our DNA. There is so much information available through our genetic material, that it should yield a tremendous amount of knowledge about the past. Each one of our cells contains millions and often billions of bits of genetic information. This incredible storehouse of information is now being revealed by what is called “gene sequencing techniques.” It is possible that from this information, we may one day even be able to obtain a good estimate of the date of the Creation. A study of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutation rates is of interest in this respect. A  1997 article in  Nature Genetics 15(4):363-367 stated. “Mitochondrial DNA is …
