When I was a kid, I’d watch matinées at the Princess Theatre. In glorious back and white, the hero would fight off monsters, villains, and all forms of evil, win the love of the girl, and live happily ever after. The good guys would always win and justice was always served. It was pretty clear who the good guys were. They wore white hats. The bad guys wore black hats. In the Bible, it is pretty clear who the good guy is. He is God. And it is pretty clear who the bad guy is. He is Satan. But there is a problem. Unlike the old movies, the bad guy switches hats. This found its way into movies as well, and the evil in the movies became more difficult to distinguish from the good. The formula changed, and the bad guys cleverly disguised themselves as good guys. Instead of straight-forward evil, it was subtle and looked the same as the good guys.
