Bethel Music’s Jenn Johnson recently spoke of an encounter she had with an angel while waiting for surgery.

She shared this with CBN during an interview at the 2025 K-LOVE Fan Awards.

Jenn was in the hospital for the birth of her daughter, via C-section. The angel appeared to her while she was waiting in a room to be taken in for surgery.

“I’ve never before or since seen an angel, but an angel appeared in my room,” Jenn recalled. “He had a bald head and a gold earring, and he just looked at me and nodded and then turned back to his posture.”

To be honest, the gold earring struck me as a bit odd. But I suspect that when the angels appeared to Abraham in Genesis 18, they were not wearing three piece suits. They would be wearing the attire, Abraham was accustomed to.

But what caught my attention was what happened to Jenn as a result of this encounter with this supernatural being.

“Peace went through my body,” Jenn said.

“I was so peaceful and I was just like, ‘Oh, you’ve got this, Lord — you’ve got this,’” she added. “And it was amazing. I wanna see more. I’ve never before or since, but I’m like, I’d love to see more.”

It reminds me of an angelic encounter that Daniel had while enjoying a day in the sun along the Tigris River. He was in Babylonian captivity at the time.

The angel’s appearance had a dramatic impact on the prophet both physically and emotionally.

This included one instance when Daniel was strengthened after the angel spoke the words Peace and Courage:

¹⁸ Then this one with human appearance touched me again and strengthened me. ¹⁹ And he said, “You who are treasured, do not be afraid. Peace be to you; take courage and be courageous!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I felt strengthened and said, “May my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” (Daniel 10:18-19 NASV)

This passage shows that angels have the ability to impact people through touch and words.

Like Daniel, Jenn also experienced a sense of peace as a result of her encounter.

It so affected her that she actually wrote a song entitled “The Mention of Your Name” about her experience.

As the writer of Hebrews explains, “Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14 Net).
