So, do you have an opinion about Climate Change? Most people do. I’m sure I do, although I don’t think about it all day.
Are you ready to talk about it? If you are ready to give an opinion, I recommend caution. Denying Climate Change, or taking the opposite position and strongly advocating for remedies to fix the problem, might get you into legal problems, in some places.
I am not a lawyer, but apparently taking a strong position in favor of Climate Change beliefs might get you into legal difficulties in the State of Florida. On the other side, denying Climate Change might also get you into legal problems in Canada. Other places also seem to be taking legal positions.
Did you know? There are news stories about oil companies that are very cautious with their public statements, these days. They don’t want expensive legal action, including lawsuits.
Here is one person’s opinion:
You could also research titles like “Apocalypse 2050” or more accurately put the word “after” before the year. Many people expect terrible things on the Earth, in a few decades. Note: for some people, the 2050 or after time refers to a possible asteroid strike. We should not confuse our apocalypses.
Some people believe sincerely that Climate Change, caused by human activities, will soon bring a disaster on the Earth. Other people believe something opposite. The arguments can be nasty, with words like “hoax” and “fraud” and of course “denial” and “denier.”
Taking a strong position on the issue, and publishing your opinions, will bring the disaster sooner; according to the activists on either side. We might have a terrible natural disaster, or on the other side, economic failure from bad decision-making based on cult-like beliefs.
With the strong conviction that we are close to disaster, and we can’t afford to make a mistake, we have legal restrictions on our opinions. At least, we might have laws restricting what we say about the subject, depending on where we live.
I am writing as a Christian, and possibly you have the same identity. So, what do we do with this roadblock?
First, let’s recognize Heaven and Hell.
For either side or polar position, in the debate, we could save ourselves, or we could bring a terrible disaster to the whole world, The stakes are very high. For true believers, that is a good reason to make laws that restrict the other side.
So, one side believes that humans will damage their environment, and bring a crisis or apocalypse on the Earth. The other side is worried that believing that, and radically changing our economy, will bring a crisis/apocalypse. Remember the push to buy electric cars, and abandon the ones that we drive now?
This is “catastrophism” on either side of the argument. Along with the apocalypse, the words indicate religious convictions. Somehow, environmentalists are becoming more biblical.
In the Bible, words written about two thousand years ago, predict environmental disasters. In the last book of the Bible, “Revelation” or the book of the Apocalypse, angels blow trumpets before each disaster:
The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.
The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water because it had been made bitter.
The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night. (Revelation 8: 7 to 12)
So, an environmental catastrophe, or two, is not a new idea. And there might be an asteroid in the second incident.
We have versions of the “What”, terrible things that might happen. We don’t agree, but people are becoming alarmed, and their convictions could bring legal restrictions.
The predictions in the Bible include one more thing, the “Who.” Environmentalists don’t have much to say about God, but of course, the Bible does. Jesus spoke about himself, and the coming Apocalypse or Catastrophe:
The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (Matthew 24: 29 and 30)
I think we should pay attention to the history that is happening around us.
