Hamburger and french fires sitting on table

A strange story out of Canada involves an American man who ordered a hamburger in Toronto and was told he needed to sign a waiver before he could eat it, news.com.au reports.

According to his post on Reddit, when the man ordered a hamburger at a restaurant in a Hilton hotel, he requested a medium cook.

The waiter took the order with no fuss, but when his burger arrived, it also came with a release form that he needed to sign before he ate it.

The waiter stated that all burgers at the restaurant were cooked until they were well done. Because he had ordered a medium cook, he was required to sign a form exempting the restaurant from all illness claims associated with eating an undercooked hamburger.

The man said he wished he had been told about this before he ordered the burger and left the restaurant without eating it.

Several commenters sided with the restaurant, stating that hamburger has a higher chance of contamination if undercooked. This is because the grinding of the meat transports surface bacteria to the inside.

Many also added they were surprised anyone would order a hamburger cooked this way.
