An interesting story out of Michigan shows how a police officer was able to use a pet dog to rescue the dog’s owner, the Toronto Sun reports.
The whole rescue was caught on the police officer’s webcam.
Bystanders called police after a 65-year-old man from Traverse City fell through thin ice on a lake in Michigan. When the police arrived, the man’s head could be seen bobbing in the frigid water. The man’s young dog, Ruby, was standing near her owner.
With the ice unsafe for police to get close, they tried throwing an orange rescue disk out to the man so they could pull him in. However, those attempts proved futile.
The police then asked if the man could get his dog to come to the police officer. The man yelled out the name of his young dog, and the police whistled and called for Ruby to come to him.
When she ran up to the police officer with her tail wagging, he attached the disc to the dog, who then skittishly returned to her owner dragging the disk, after the owner called for her to return.
