According to U-Haul, its analysis of the rental of its moving equipment and vehicles found in 2023, California once again topped the list of states where more people were moving out than were moving in, Fox News reports.
California was followed by Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois, and Massachusetts as the states reporting a higher net population loss, based on U-Haul’s rental statistics.
California topped the U-Haul’s exodus list for the fourth year in a row.
According to Chad Ferran, a U-Haul area vice president in California, the top three reasons people are leaving the state:
- High cost of living,
- A new job, or loss of a job, and
- Political reasons.
