Researchers from three American and Turkish universities claim that they have found evidence that an unusual geological formation in the Ararat mountains in Turkey may be the final resting place of Noah’s Ark, CBN reports.
Called the Durupinar formation, the unique boat-like structure is 538 feet (ca. 164 m) long and has similar dimensions to Noah’s ark mentioned in the Bible.
The researchers stated that a study of the material in the surrounding area concluded that humans were living at the site 5,000 years ago, which is the traditional date for Noah’s ark and the flood.
Though the testing conducted by Istanbul Technical University revealed that the area was inhabited by people at the time of the flood, it did not prove that the area also contained the remains of Noah’s ark.
According to the Daily Mail, the unusual site was discovered in 1956, but it is just one of several locations believed to be Mount Ararat which was the final resting place of Noah’s ark (Genesis 8:4).
