According to the latest statistics, Texas parents are continuing to pull their children from government-run schools in record numbers, the Christian Post reports.

The latest data provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) revealed that 29,765 children were pulled out of Texas public schools in grades 7 to 12 for the 2021-22 school year.

This was the second most withdrawals ever recorded and was barely beaten out by the 29,845 withdrawn during the 2020-21 school year at the height of COVID-19.

Typically, the withdrawal numbers run between 20,000 to 25,000 per year in Texas.

Many parents are choosing to homeschool their children which has seen the percentage choosing this option jumping from 4.5% in the 2019-2020 school year to 12.3% in the 2020-21 school year.

And it is not just white parents who are doing this. The stats also revealed that 41% of parents deciding to homeschool identified as non-white/non-Hispanic.

According to Jeremy Newman, the VP of the Texas Homes School Association, parents cite primarily three reasons for pulling their children out of public schools:

  • Child safety,
  • Concerns about parent involvement, and
  • The school environment.
