We know from the Book of Job that Satan has some ability to influence the weather and other natural phenomena.

In an effort to have Job deny his faith in God, Satan caused a fire to come down from heaven killing Job’s sheep and servants (Jobs 1:16). Days later a mighty wind caused the house where Job’s older children had gathered for an evening meal to collapse, killing all of them (Job 1:18-19).

If Satan had some ability to manipulate natural elements causing death and destruction, can it still be happening today?

This brings us to the wildfires that struck the Hawaiian island of Maui on August 8, 2023. So far 114 people have died, with upwards of 850 still unaccounted for, including whole families.

NBC states the death toll from these wildfires is the largest in American history even without including those that are still listed as missing.

According to the latest reports, over 17,000 acres of land and over 2,200 homes and businesses have been destroyed or damaged by fires, including most of the resort community of Lahaina.

So what was the cause of this destruction?

A recent article on Charisma News suggests it might have a spiritual source.

On July 16, 2023, three weeks before the fires started, Charlie Shamp of Destiny Encounter International ministries, was in Hawaii and gave what has been described as a hard prophetic word.

It was a warning to Hawaii, that a ‘demon of death’ was about to be unleashed, and it was connected to the covenant that the state has made with abortion.

According to Charisma News, in March 1970, Hawaii was one of the first US states to decriminalize abortion, allowing it to be done at the request of the woman.

In a video posted on YouTube, Shamp stated:

“I want you to hear me very carefully. We have seen the overturning of one of the greatest, strongest demons in America. That demon of death has been rebuked and the bloodshed has been lifted off certain places in America. But just as a spirit is driven out, it goes to look for another place where it can land. The enemy seeks a place where there is an open door that he can come.“

Shamp warned that he believed this demon had targeted Hawaii and called on people to pray for the state:

“The enemy seeks to bring some significant bloodshed upon this place. But it will be through intercession of the saints that the door will be closed. But you must to rise up in this hour and close the door on that demonic power that is lifted off of certain states but seeks to come to this place.”

“What did the dragon in Revelation 12 want to do? He wanted to kill the baby. The Spirit of the Lord revealed to me that dragon seeks to bring the spirit of death upon this place. The spirit that lifted off of the nation through Roe v. Wade in certain sections where abortion will not be allowed any longer … he seeks to land in the place to bring bloodshed and unless there is significant intercession that will come up from these islands, a spirit of death will come into this place.“

So was a ‘demon of death’ unleashed on Hawaii? We all have to reach our own conclusions on this matter.
