Dr. Jane Orient is the executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and she recently responded to a study revealing that countries that allowed the controversial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to be used in the treatment of Covid had nearly a 75% lower death rate than those that didn’t.
The drug became politicized after US President Donald Trump recommended the popular malaria drug as a treatment for the coronavirus. As soon as that happened, political opponents and the mainstream media immediately began bashing the popular drug as a potential treatment.

“Why is the death rate about 75 percent lower in many countries?” asked Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.
The reference is to a country-based analysis updated Sept. 20 that shows a gap between countries that treat COVID-19 early or prophylactically [to stop you from getting COVID) with hydroxychloroquine and those that, like the U.S., discourage or prohibit its use.
The answer to Orient’s question can be found in a white paper published by the Economic Standard this month titled “Hydroxychloroquine and the Burden of Proof: An Urgent Call to Depoliticize Medicine in the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Canadian researchers reported that there are different stages of COVID and using HCQ early in treatment was effective in stopping the virus. It was not effective if used later in treatment.
