ChinaAid has just recently released a video of a violent attack on a church in China by the country’s communist regime. ChinaAid is a Christian non-profit that focuses on human rights abuses in China.
In their description of the video, ChinaAid writes:
“In a video taken at the scene, officers and attendees of Xingguang Church shout as they engage in a physical altercation. As they block the entrance, officials drag a Christian to the door, with other congregants fighting along with him.”
Aside from the violence, what is disturbing is the reason for the attack.
The church is considered illegal because it was not part of the Communist Regime’s Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM). Churches (including house churches) are required by law to be a part of the Three-Self movement.
The Communist regime uses the Three-Self movement to control the Gospel message by inserting itself into choosing the Church leadership. The Gospel message is still being preached in some Three-Self churches, if the original pastor is still in charge. However, when he leaves, retires or dies, the TSPM plays a significant role in choosing the next leader who often turns into little more than a communist operative.
As well, TSPM churches must set up facial recognition videos so the Communist regime can record who is attending. This is done in part to discourage people from going to church.
The Communist party requires Three-Self churches t have a synergism with communist dogma which often results in the words of Mao being displayed on walls inside church buildings.
According to an article in the Daily Mail, in November 2019, the communist party announced it will be rewriting both the Bible and other religious texts to “reflect socialist values.” Any passages deemed contrary to communist dogma will be removed or rewritten. Of course, this new revised Bible will be the scripture used in the Three-Self churches. Apparently, the committee that ordering this rewrite was made up of 16 people representing different religions in China.
So is Communist regime paving the way for what appears to be an end-times religion controlled by the Antichrist?
Maybe, because many believe the Book of Revelation portrays the emergence of such an end times religion.
15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. (Revelation 13:15 NIV)
It is also suggested that the “harlot of Babylon” mentioned in Revelation 17, describes this new religion or new religious authority that people will be required to join. The word “harlot” is a term that often referred to false religions in the Old Testament.
But the fact that this is a woman also fits the theme. We have Christ then the Antichrist. We have the church, the Bride of Christ and then the “harlot of Babylon,” essentially the anti-church.
According to Revelation 17:15, this anti-church will have a dominating influence involving all nations, tongues, and peoples.
Now some have suggested that the “harlot of Babylon” refers to the Roman Catholic Church, a view held by the early reformers who were persecuted after they left the Catholic Church. Others have also thrown out Islam as a possible candidate.
But neither of these explanations is satisfactory, because it says all peoples will come under its authority, and I can’t envision Islam coming under the authority of the Roman Catholic Church or visa versa.
I suspect it will be an organization similar to the Three-Self Movement but with a broader mandate encompassing all religions. And similar to China’s Three-Self Movement, it will have a strong political connection because we are told this “harlot” will commit adulteries with the Kings of the Earth (Revelation 17:1-2).
In other words, politicians will use this new religious order to control religions in their country. Revelation describes them being drunk with the wine of her adulteries. It will be all about power and control.
And similar to what is happening in China, those who refuse to join this new religious authority will be persecuted (Revelation 13:6).
