Student alleges Texas teacher required classmates to deny their faith in order to pass assignment

What is going on inside school classrooms?

What is going on inside school classrooms?

According to an article on Breitbart, a teacher in Katy, Texas provided her seventh grade reading class a disturbing assignment that required them to deny their faith to pass.

On Monday, October 26, 2015, the teacher allegedly told the students to answer a poll asking if God was “fact, opinion or myth.”

The teacher added that if the students answered anything but “myth” they would score poorly on the assignment.

Jordan Wooley is  a straight A student at West Memorial Junior High School. She decided to stand for her faith and take a failing grade for the assignment.

When she went home, Jordan told her parents about what had happened in class. Her parents immediately phoned the principal of the school to complain. The principal promised to look into the situation.

Jordan and another student decided to take their complaint to the school board that was meeting the same night. However, her friend who went home and cried after the class was unable to join Jordan because she was still upset.

Jordan’s mother, Chantel, videoed her daughter’s presentation to the school board which you can see below:

In her appearance before the board, Jordan said:

“Today I was given an assignment in school that questioned my faith and told me that God was not real. Our teacher started off saying that the assignment had been giving problems all day. We were asked to take a poll whether God is fact, opinion or a myth and she told anyone who said fact or opinion was wrong and God was only a myth.”

Jordan added when several students objected, the teacher refused to back down.

The students were immediately concerned and began arguing with the teacher. One student said she would explain why she believed in God, but the teacher said she would still flunk the assignment.

When a student turned in her assignment choosing God as a fact, Jordan alleged the teacher crossed out the answer several times in front of the class.

The school board members thanked Jordan for her bravery in coming forward. They added since the school principal was checking into the situation they would let the administration handle it.

Breitbart reported that Superintendent Alton Frailey told Jordan:

“I’m truly sorry that you feel your faith was questioned. What’s going on is that the principal was made aware of this today and is going to have a chance to work on that as per district policies and procedures. We definitely will look into that. Thank you very much. It was very brave of you. Thank you, honey. Good job.”

It appears the assignment was the teacher’s personal pet project as students in other classes taught by the same teacher were also given the poll. According to Jordan, the teacher mentioned the assignment had caused problems all day.

The assignment does not seem to have been part of the school’s curriculum for the class. Other reading teachers at the school were not giving an assignment on God’s existence.

The spirit of the age?

I find it interesting that in the Book of Revelation the issue of forcing Christians to deny their faith comes up a few times. People were not content to just persecute Christians, but they wanted them to deny Christ as well.

In his vision of the end times, the Apostle John cites letters being sent to seven churches. In two of the letters, he references the pressure that was there to have Christians deny their faith.

To the church at Smyrna, that was also declared the place where satan dwells, John said:

13 ‘I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is; and you hold fast My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days of Antipas, My witness, My faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. (Revelation 2:13 NASV).

John gave the same commendation to the church at Philadelphia saying they did not deny Jesus’ Name (Revelation 3:6-8).

In the Middle East, ISIS is giving the Christians the choice of denying their faith or death. I recently posted the story of 12 Christians who were killed, four by beheading, because they refused to deny their faith when ISIS dragged them in front of the village.

Now we allegedly have a teacher in America suggesting Christians children can get a passing grade if they are willing to deny their faith.

What is behind this obsession to have Christians deny their faith?
