It has been interesting watching Russell Brand’s faith journey. Brand is a British, comedian, actor, and podcaster.

It started showing up last year when Russell spoke of an increased interest in the Bible and spiritual things, which he shared in Instagram and X posts.

Then earlier this year, he started posting about water baptism and asking people what they thought about that.

This led to him eventually being baptized in the River Thames, on Sunday, April 28, 2024. The full immersion baptism was performed by another reality star, Bear Grylls.

Since then, Brand has been posting about what may be the next step in his spiritual journey, getting baptized or filled with the Holy Spirit.

Though we are uncertain what church he is attending, it seems to be charismatic, and the Vicar’s name is Dave, suggesting it might be a charismatic Anglican church.

In a recent X post, Brand stated that he was at church on Sunday, May 19, 2024, which was Pentecost Sunday, Charisma News reports.

The feast of Pentecost takes place 50 days after Passover and this was the same day, nearly 2000 years ago, when the Holy Spirit fell upon the disciples (Acts 2:1-2).

During the service, Dave talked about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. What seemed to have caught Brand’s attention, was how Jesus said the Holy Spirit would fall upon the disciples, and they would perform even greater works than Jesus did.

Pentecost was when the apostles were hanging out together, post the death of our Lord, hidden and afraid in this crazy world and the Holy Spirit comes down and they speak in tongues,” Brand explained in his video posted on X. “What I like is the idea that we can be infused with a great power, we can be infused with God’s grace. We can speak God’s wisdom.

This was an extraordinary idea to me,” Russell continued.

So if this follows the same pattern as before, Russell will spend some time talking about it, and then at some point may actually request prayer to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
