12 And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will become cold. (Matthew 24:12 NASV)
After a 21-year-old man and his friends were robbed at gunpoint while filling up their rental car with gas, the father sarcastically stated that this is the new ‘normal’ for California, Fox News reports.
The boy’s parents, Maxey Scherr and Victor Obevoen, had joined their son and his friends to do a tour of wineries in California wine country on his 21st birthday.
When the son and friends, who were in a different vehicle, stopped to fill up with gas, a car with armed men wearing ski masks pulled up beside their vehicles.
The thieves began pulling items out of the car, and when their son who was driving, got out he was pistol-whipped by one of the assailants, who then stole his wallet and phone.
The luggage and personal items of his friends were stolen as well. The whole incident was captured on video. The gas attendant, who appeared nonchalant about the incident, told the boys to leave in case the thieves returned.
When they returned the vehicle to the rental company, the clerk said it happens daily to people renting vehicles.
When they made the police report, they got the same ‘indifferent’ attitude.
The family, who live out of state, had visited California in the past and were shocked, by the change that has taken place over the past several years.
The boy’s mother, Scherr, who is also an attorney, emailed Gov Newsom and other state officials about the incident and noted California’s leaders seemed indifferent to the wanton lawlessness.
“Shockingly, the response by the gas station, rental car company, police and politicians contacted on the day of the attack was indifference”, Scherr wrote. “Since the day of the attack, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to reach each of you listed on this email (and others) we have received no response at all. We have made national news. Yet not a SINGLE response has been received.”
Lawlessness is now part of everyday life in California, as Newsom is personally well aware.
