Family reading books

One of the challenges facing many parents is raising their children with a Christian worldview in a society bent on removing the last vestiges of Christianity.

A new website, Think Above the Box Study Guides, aimed at middle to high school students, hopes to help parents and teachers in that fight by providing Biblical study guides for popular secular books being read by students.

“Through the application of hundreds of Scripture verses, videos, blog posts, music and thought-provoking questions, you can present a fun and engaging way to comprehend a secular story using a Biblical worldview,” writes Barbara Pietsch, the ministry’s director.

“Our culture today has pretty much put God on the DO NOT TOUCH shelf for schools, teachers and students,” Pietsch adds. “The Think Above the Box series was born as an aid to counter the shutting out of all things Biblical in education today,” that will take more books into the theological realm.”

Rather than just accepting what is being presented in the books, Think About the Box Study Guides challenge students to look at popular novels from a Christian perspective.

To date, guides have been developed for four books, Warship Poseidon, Castle of Fire, Paladin’s War and Light of Ganymede which can be downloaded at no charge from the website.

The website also provides sample chapters from the books being discussed, but the full novels need to be purchased separately from sites such as Amazon.

Plans are in the works to develop guides for other books, such as Anne of Green Gables and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
