The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) recently released its annual free speech rankings for American universities and the once-esteemed Harvard University scored the lowest, the NY Post reports.

Harvard was not only last scoring a 0.0 out of 100, when it comes to allowing free speech on campus, but it was also 11 points lower than the second-worst university, Philadelphia’s University of Pennsylvania.

FIRE determines its ranking by analyzing school policies and their impact on free speech, student reactions to free speech, and by determining if the university targets specific individuals because of their beliefs.

Recently nine of Harvard’s professors and researchers were targeted by students and others because of what they had said or written. Instead of defending their right to free speech the university actually disciplined seven of the group.

A recent poll conducted by FIRE also revealed some startling results as 55% of students stated they were fearful of being canceled if they expressed their personal opinions on certain issues. Perhaps equally disturbing 27% of students also stated it was ok to violently attack people if they held contrary opinions.
