A recent report published by Oregon Live concluded that Oregon’s Multnomah County has lost over one billion in income between 2020 and 2021 as people fled the state because of rising crime and out-of-control homelessness, Fox News reports.
According to Oregon Live, 14,247 tax filers fled the country during this two-year period.
The city of Portland, located in Multnomah County, was a major contributor to this drop as the city experienced the 6th largest decline in residents of any major city in America.
Most Portlanders left because they no longer felt safe which can be largely attributed to the state’s and city’s soft-on-crime policies.
And it doesn’t seem that the exodus will slow anytime soon as reports showed that over 8,300 people left Portland in a one-year period between July 2021 and July 2022.
Prior to 2020, the city had seen 15 years of consistent growth, but that year also marked the start of a significant increase in the crime rates which resulted in the city breaking its record for the number of homicides in 2021 and again in 2022.
Studies also revealed that the number of homeless people in the city increased by 50% between 2019 and 2022.
In 2020, BLM rioters in Portland were also seen burning Bibles, which may have reflected the radical cultural shift taking place in the city.
