An asteroid the size of 12 buses will be whizzing by Earth at 9 AM BST on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the Daily Mail reports.

The asteroid, estimated to be 524 feet (160 meters) in diameter, is traveling at 26,000 miles per hour (ca. 41,843 km/h) or 34 times the speed of sound.

The asteroid called 2013 WV44 is classified as a near-earth object and is currently one of the thousands of asteroids being tracked by NASA.

Though the asteroid will miss Earth by a couple of million miles, in astronomical terms this is still rather close, because the Earth’s gravity can potentially pull in objects.

Because of its size and distance out, the asteroid was only classified as ‘potentially hazardous’ which refers to any asteroid that is 459 feet (140 m) in diameter and within 4.56 million miles of Earth.

In his vision of the end times recorded in the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John recorded a couple of instances of asteroids hitting the earth as part of the end times apocalypse.

In one instance, an asteroid the size of a flaming mountain will cause massive destruction:

8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. (Revelation 8:8-9 ESV)
