The parents of an 11-year-old child who attends Lexington Local Schools in Ohio allege their child was forced to participate in a pagan ritual as part of a class project earlier this year, CBN reports.
Benjamin and Amie Mutti are active Messianic Jews and in a presentation to the Lexington School Board, Amie said that in mid-February a fifth-grade social studies teacher instructed her son to make a kachina doll.

Mutti added that the class handout stated these dolls were made by Native Americans to represent Hopi spirits.
According to Wikipedia, the highly decorated dolls stood 8 and ten inches tall and were created by members of the Hopi tribe to represent immortal beings or the different spirits that controlled all aspects of life. This included the natural world such as the weather. They also served as messengers between men and the spirit world.
Each kachina doll was thought to have unique powers and once they were used in religious ceremonies, they were then hung on the walls of the family homes or pueblos.
According to Amie, after her son created the kachina doll, he was then instructed to name it, describe its unique powers, and then take it home.
She told the school board that this project was a violation of her family’s Christian faith which forbids the making of idols or graven images and expressly forbids bringing them into their homes.
Amie added that the teacher never gave their family prior warning about the project, nor the choice of opting out.
After the family contacted the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), it sent a letter to the school board informing them that the project was a clear violation of the religious freedoms promised under the Constitution.
The school board has yet to respond to the ACLJ’s letter.
The ACLJ added that while this is taking place, the organization has been forced to defend the rights of a student who was prevented from wearing a cross necklace at school, and another who was not allowed to bring a Bible to school for personal devotions.
