PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) just announced that it has rewritten the Book of Genesis to conform to PETA’s beliefs, Faithwire reports.
In its statement released on May 3, PETA stated that it used ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence, to rewrite the first book of the Bible, “to send a can’t-be-missed animal rights message filled with vegan teachings. PETA hopes the new, cruelty-free Story of Creation will appeal to Generation Z, 73% of whom identify as animal rights activists.”
Essentially, the organization is trying to recreate God in its own image.
Some changes include a rewrite of Genesis 22, where God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac and at the last minute provided a Ram as a substitutionary sacrifice.
In PETA’s rewrite, Abraham actually befriends a lamb instead, as PETA insists God would not permit animal cruelty, such as the sacrifice of a ram.
And of course, we can’t forget about Herbie. That is the name of the dog that Abraham and Sarah apparently adopted, to push PETA’s narrative that people should be adopting pets instead of buying.
And when the Bible says that animal skin was used for clothing, such as in Genesis 3:21 when God provided animal skins for Adam and Eve after they sinned and hid because they were naked, PETA says that the clothes are woven from hemp or Bamboo. According to its news release, PETA insists “no one with any fashion or moral sense would wear animal skins in the 21st century.”
In this new version, animals are also referred to as beings, instead of beasts or creatures, to elevate their status.
PETA is using its rewrite of the Genesis as a fundraiser and will be selling its version entitled, “The Book: PETA’s Version of the Creation Story” for $3.99 US.
But rewriting the Bible seems to be a growing trend in recent days and I expect it will only get worse.
In 2020 reports surfaced of how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was rewriting the Bible to syncretize it with Communist ideology. READ: Pompeo: The Chinese Communist Party is re-writing the Bible
This may eventually include significant changes to the story of the woman caught in adultery (John 8) if a textbook, published by the CCP’s University of Electronic Science and Technology Press, is any indication.
In the original story, the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus asking if she should be stoned. Jesus was able to rescue the woman, sparing her life.
However, in the version found in the textbook, after the Pharisees left, Jesus declared Himself a sinner and stoned the woman. READ: China changes Bible story, says Jesus killed woman caught in adultery
This is not the first time we have seen a rewrite of the Bible in order to fulfill a particular agenda.
In the 1980s, the National Council of Churches released a translation of the Bible that removed any references to God as solely male, referring to Him instead as the Mother and Father of all humans.
This even included no longer describing Jesus as the Son of God. One of the Bible’s more popular verses, John 3:16, which starts off with, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son” was changed to read:
”For God so loved the world that God gave God’s only Child, that whoever believes in that Child should not perish, but have eternal life.”
The version flopped after several denominations said they would not be using or recommending it for their congregations.
The Apostle John makes an interesting statement at the end of the Book of Revelation when he warned of judgment against anyone who tried to add or take away from the words of his vision.
Since the Book of Revelation reveals events that would take place leading up to Christ’s second coming, John’s prophetic warning suggests he foresaw attempts to rewrite the Christian scripture in the end times:
18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and [a]from the holy city, which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19 NASV)
Though this warning was specifically about changing the Book of Revelation, we also see similar warnings for the rest of the Bible:
2 You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, so that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I am commanding you. (Deuteronomy 4:2 NASV)
