Reports are circulating again of how a group of self-proclaimed internet witches are planning to put a hex on President Donald Trump and his supporters.
This involves an internet driven witch group with approximately 13,000 followers around the world.
According to Michael Snyder, members of this group will join together at 11:59 on October 25, 2019, to put a spell on Trump and his followers. Apparently that day was chosen because of its tie to a “waning crescent moon.”
Snyder says this “binding spell” is intended to influence Trump. Also referred to as defixiones, they are designed to stop Trump from doing certain things that the witches believe will hurt America.
According to the Washington Examiner, the witches have been specifically instructed to conjure up “demons” to carry out this spell:
This witch group specifically want the demonic to influence Trump.
The Book of Daniel provides some of the clearest insights into spiritual warfare both on a personal and political level.
The prophet Daniel was living in captivity in Persia along with tens of thousands of Jews captured by the Babylonians. After the Persians conquered Babylon, Daniel believed that the time of the Jews restoration to Israel was near.
But as Daniel began to pray about this he sensed it was a time of “great conflict” (literally warfare in the Hebrew) and entered a three-week period of fasting and prayer (Daniel 10:1-3).
At the end of this time, an angel shows up with the answer to Daniel’s prayer stating that he had been hindered from delivering it because he had been resisted by the Prince of Persia. But the godly angel was finally able to break through when reinforced by the arrival of the archangel Michael (Daniel 10:13).
This was the warfare that Daniel was becoming aware of.
There are three things that we see in this account.
First we see through the angel’s interaction with Daniel how the demonic attacks people. Throughout the encounter we see the godly angel having a profound impact on Daniel by the words the angel spoke and touches taking place from the spiritual realm. There are seven examples of this interaction, but we will only look at three of them.
In Daniel 10:9, the angel spoke and sent Daniel into a deep sleep and in verse 10, when the angel touched him, Daniel fell to his hands and knees trembling and in verse 19, when the angel spoke the words ‘courage’ Daniel was immediately strengthened.
Each time the angel spoke or touched Daniel different thing happened to the prophet.
The reason I point this out is that evil spirits are simply fallen angels and though they fell they have not lost their ability to similarly impact people. If the word ‘courage’ strengthened Daniel, what would the word “fear” or “terror” do if spoken by an evil spirit.
The second thing we notice is the Angel of God taking a position beside the king of Persia to protect him. We miss this happening because of what is arguably the worst chapter break in the Bible.
If we read the last verse of Daniel 10, we see that the angel speaking and continues the conversation in the next chapter. The angel was now taking a position beside the King of Persia to both encourage and protect him. Protect him from what — the demonic that would be trying to influence the Persian King negatively through words and touches and probably from real physical enemies as well.
With this godly influence, the King of Persia eventually allowed the Jews to return to their homeland and this freedom was extended to all the other nations taken captive by the Babylonians. When Godly angels are influencing government leaders, people will be freed and allowed to flourish. When the demonic is influencing we will see an eroding of freedoms and rights.
Finally, we see what resulted in all this happening — prayer and fasting. We read in the first three verses of Daniel 10, after Daniel received the warning about the great conflict he entered a 21-day period of fasting and prayer.
And I believe the angel specifically acknowledged this time of intercession as contributing to the angel’s success, when the angel states that he was hindered for 21 days, before the archangel Michael was dispatched to help the angel deliver the message (Daniel 10:12-14).
God wants to engage our spiritual enemies, but that requires us to first engage God through prayer and intercession.
