A unique rendition of “A Mighty Fortress is Our God, my favourite hymn, sung by Brian Doerksen. My wife basically planned our wedding many years ago. I only wanted one thing. I wanted her to come down the aisle with this song. I know this is not a traditional wedding song, but it was a powerful entrance. Brian Doerksen is a song writer and worship leader based in Abbotsford, B.C., Canada.
On all Hallows’ Eve (October 31, 1517), Dominican Friar Martin Luther — the writer of this hymn — posted his 95 Thesis on the door of All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Germany. He was protesting the sale of indulgences in his pastorate. Though Luther’s protest was initially intended to reform the Roman Catholic church, it ended up sparking the Protestant Reformation. All Hallows’ Eve was part of the Roman Catholic’s liturgical calendar setting the stage for the All Hallow’s day celebration the next day dedicated to remembering the dead including the saints and martyrs.
