How Twitter fact-checked President Biden’s tweet

With Elon Musk’s purchase of the social media giant, Twitter, people are hoping for a return to free speech and facts on the platform. It may be too soon to tell, but people were pleasantly surprised when Twitter fact-checked one of President Biden’s tweets when his office gloated: “Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their social security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership.” In response to the now-deleted Tweet, Twitter pointed out in a statement below the tweet, that the increase was simply an automatic cost of living adjustment due to inflation caused by the Biden administration. The fact check stated: “Seniors will receive a large Social Security benefit increase due to the annual cost of living adjustment, which is based on the inflation rate. President Nixon in 1972 signed into law automatic benefit adjustments tied to the Consumer Price Index. Pub. L. 92-336 (1972).” READ: Twitter praised for fact-check on White House account: ‘Fact checks are getting factual now!’

Green Peace: Recycling is a waste of time and money

Many municipalities are embracing recycling forcing their citizens to separate their plastics from their regular garbage. Of course, along with those new bins, the city is able to add extra charges, call it a tax grab, in order to save the environment. In a shocking report, Green Peace has announced that the recycling of plastics is basically a scam and does nothing to save the environment and in fact, is probably making things worse. The City Journal writes: This has been obvious for decades to anyone who crunched the numbers, but the fantasy of recycling plastic proved irresistible to generations of environmentalists and politicians. They preached it to children, mandated it for adults, and bludgeoned municipalities and virtue-signaling corporations into wasting vast sums—probably hundreds of billions of dollars worldwide—on an enterprise that has been harmful to the environment as well as to humanity.[…] The Greenpeace report offers a wealth of statistics and an admirably succinct diagnosis: “Mechanical and chemical recycling of plastic waste has largely failed and will always fail because plastic waste is: (1) …

Forgiving ourselves

Though we are exhorted throughout the Bible to forgive others, perhaps the biggest challenge that believers face is forgiving ourselves when we have done wrong. Maybe our actions, intentional or otherwise, caused harm to others or maybe we failed to help, and we just can’t seem to shake these feelings of failure and condemnation. Though the Bible does not directly state that we must forgive ourselves, it is implied throughout the scriptures. We start with how God treats our sins by tossing them into the deepest part of the ocean, which some have described as the sea of forgetfulness: He will again have compassion on us;    he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our[a] sins    into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19 ESV) Isaiah describes God putting our sins behind His back, so He sees them no more (Isaiah 38:17). God has chosen to forgive and completely forget our sins, but many of us struggle with seeing ourselves as God sees u. The Jews understood the importance of this and actually developed the tradition …

Poll: 37% of small business owners unable to pay October rent

A popular coffee shop in our area that a friend and I often visited was shut down a few months back. A sign posted on the door by the owner of the building stated that they had not paid their rent. They didn’t survive the pandemic shutdown, and with the recent economic turmoil in the US, they may not be alone. A recent poll conducted by Alignable revealed that 37% of small business owners in the US may be unable to pay their October rent. The Daily Wire provides more details: Small American businesses, crippled by rampant inflation, higher gas prices, soaring supply chain costs, and a concomitant plunge in consumer spending, are growing in their inability to pay their rent, according to a recent survey. Alignable’s October Rent Report shows that in October, 37% of small business owners surveyed stated they were unable to pay their rent. The rate of delinquency was 30% in September. The 7% increase represented the biggest, fastest increase month to month in 2022. A total of 59% of small business owners told …

Scientists warn a massive asteroid is lurking in our solar system

As part of his apocalyptic vision of the end times, the Apostle John saw an asteroid the size of a mountain slamming into the earth causing massive devastation. 8 The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, 9 and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed. (Revelation 8:8-9 NASV) Well, an observatory in Chile has just spotted three massive asteroids within what is described as our inner solar system, the Daily Mail reports. And one of them, 2022 AP7, is one mile or 1.5 km in diameter and actually has the potential to cross the path of the earth’s orbit around the sun. The asteroids within the inner solar system are very difficult to spot because the sun’s glare makes them almost impossible to spot. The Daily Mail explains: A massive asteroid described as a ‘planet killer’ has been spotted lurking in the inner …

How a misfiring gun, turned a gang member to Christ

In 2016, Javier Torres was a member of a Mexican gang in Northern California, until God intervened in an unusual way, causing him to become a believer in Jesus. According to AG News, he and members of his gang were involved in a confrontation with a member of another gang. Torres pulled his gun and unloaded his pistol, a .357 magnum revolver, on the man. However, instead of shots ringing out, there were only six clicks as the gun didn’t fire. Stunned, Torres and his gang fled. Once back at their home base, another gang member checked Torres’ gun. When he noticed that the bullets had not misfired, he told Torres that it must have been God who stopped the pistol from firing. Shook by the experience, for the next three months Torres turned to cocaine. But one day, when he was unable to get cocaine for his daily fix, Torres turned to God in prayer. “God, if this is you helping me get me out of this pain and hurt, I want a new …

Don’t let the sun’s smiley face fool you

Describing the sun as our solar system’s largest nuclear reactor, NASA recently tweeted a photo, taken by one of its satellites, of the sun showing a bizarre-looking smiley face. But don’t let that smile fool you. Those dark spots are caused by coronal holes, which are areas of high magnetic activity, which are spewing out solar winds into space. In large enough quantities, these have the potential to disrupt radio and television communication on earth and even damage electrical equipment. The National Post provides a quote by Brian Keating, a physics professor at the University of California: “When the particles, which carry electrical charge, hit the planet in small doses, colourful auroras might follow, bringing brilliant displays caused by the atmosphere’s gases interacting with the sun’s burped-up shoots of energy. The problems come if a tremendous number of the teeny-tiny particles hit Earth, Keating said. Instead of being sucked into Earth’s magnetic field, they could get picked up by radio antennae and disrupt radio, television and other communication channels. A severe solar storm could even …

Iranian-born MMA fighter tells his people there is freedom in Jesus

UFC fighter, Beneil Dariush, 33, who was born in Iran but now lives in the US recently testified of Jesus after his eighth consecutive MMA win, CBN reports. After the fight held on Oct 22, 2022, a reporter asked Dariush about his victory. Instead of talking about himself, he directed his comments to the Iranian people fighting for freedom in the tyrannical Islamic regime. Dairush told the Iranians that there is only freedom in Jesus. CBN reports: “I need to dedicate this fight to: My people in Iran. I know you’re struggling,” he said. “I know you’re fighting for freedom. I know it’s a tough struggle. I want you guys to know we’re praying for you, and we love you.” “Let me tell you one more thing. This might be the most important thing you’ll ever hear: there is true freedom, a freedom that no one can take from you in the name of Jesus Christ, the son of God,” he said. “Don’t ever forget that. If you remember one thing I say, remember that.” …

Hezekiah’s Pool of Siloam plaque?

Hezekiah was the 13th King of Judah and by all accounts one of Judah’s better kings. He is better known as the king who changed God’s mind after, the prophet Isaiah delivered a message that Hezekiah, who was probably 39 years old at the time, would die from the boil that was plaguing him. After receiving the news Hezekiah turned to prayer and this literally changed God’s mind, who told Isaiah to return and pronounce healing to the sick King (2 Kings 20:1-5). There have been several archaeological discoveries confirming Hezekiah’s reign. The most recent took place in 2007, when archaeologists discovered a fragment of a larger limestone plaque that was possibly installed on a building that contained Hezekiah’s name and a possible reference to one of his achievements. The 5.3 inches (ca. 13 cm) by 3.7 inches (ca. 9 cm) piece found by Archaeologist Eli Shukron and University of Haifa professor Gershon Galil in the old city of Jerusalem contained two lines. They believed it was part of a larger plaque because there was a …

San Diego ERS report up to 37 marijuana psychosis patients a day

Just because activists claim marijuana is a safe drug, doesn’t mean it is According to the NY Post, San Diego emergency rooms are reporting upwards of 37 people a day coming for help after consuming marijuana. Most of the cases involve incidents of psychosis. The New York Post provides more details: “We’re now counting 37 cannabis-related diagnoses a day,” Dr. Roneet Lev, an addiction medicine doctor at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, said about her emergency department. “It’s been steadily increasing over the years. When I started in the 1990s, there was no such thing. Now I see 1 to 2 cases per shift. The most common symptom is psychosis.”  “We probably see 20 THC-induced psychoses for every amphetamine-induced psychosis,” said Ben Cort, who runs a drug and alcohol treatment center in Colorado. One study showed an increase of 24% in cases of psychoses in emergency departments in Colorado in the five years following marijuana’s legalization in that state in 2012. Since then, legal marijuana has been transformed into a potent and unrecognizable product. READ: San Diego …
