With the start of the Iranian war five days ago, Israeli authorities acknowledged that an Iranian missile has just missed Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.
Since US and Israel launched their attack on Saturday, Feb 28, 2026, Iranian forces have launched several ballistic missile against Israel.
The Times of Israel is reporting people heard an explosion and saw smoke pouring into the sky just outside Jerusalem’s old wall early Saturday morning. This was less than a kilometer away from the Temple Mount.
The Temple Mount is Israel’s most holy site. It is the former location of the Jewish Temple that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. It is now home to two Islamic building the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.
Police inspecting the site found an unexploded Iranian ballistic missile, along with debris. It is uncertain if the missile had misfired or if it had been shot down by Israeli air defenses. The missile was later defused.
With the Iranian government essentially destroyed, rogue elements within the country’s military are launching attacks not only against Israel, but also neighboring Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and more recently Turkey.
There are concerns that these extremists may have purposefully targeted the Temple Mount. This is because destroying either of the two Islamic buildings would inflame the already tense situation.
“Yesterday, we received further proof that from the enemy’s perspective, all targets are legitimate, and if that warhead had deviated by a few hundred meters, it is very possible that a very serious hit would have occurred, especially if one of the holy places had been hit while it was full of worshipers and visitors,” said Jerusalem District Police Commander Dvir Tamir.
To understand why Iran would do this, we need to turn to 1 Kings 3:16-28.
It involved an incident that took place under King Solomon. Two prostitutes, with young babies, were living together. When one of the women’s child died during the night, she switched her dead baby with the other woman’s live one.
When this second woman realized what had taken place, she took her claim before King Solomon.
With both women claiming the child, Solomon had no way of determining who was the true mother. So he ordered the baby cut in two and half given to each woman.
This quickly revealed the real mother. She begged Solomon not to kill the child but let the other woman have him.
But the reaction of the bitter woman who stole the baby is very telling. She said, “Neither one of us will have him. Let them cut him in two!” (verse 26).
If she couldn’t have her way, then no one would have the baby.
The Iranian extremists are the bitter woman. With demise of their tyrannical government, they want to drag the whole region into an apocalyptic war.
Since Iran’s Islamic government came to power in 1979, an estimated 30,000+ people opposed to the regime have been killed.
The government has also set up a morality police to enforce Islamic law. This includes arresting women for not wearing a hijab,
In response to this brutality and oppression, people are abandoning Islam in mass. This has resulted in thousands of mosques closing across the country.
International Christian Concern states that despite the fierce persecution Iran is home to the fastest growing church in the world,
