Fox News recently interviewed several people who attended ChosenCon, in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 20, 2026. They were there to celebrate The Chosen a multiple season TV series on the Life of Christ.
The event that featured stars and creators from the series, brought in thousands of fans from across America.
It followed the pattern of the popular ComicCons that are held each year. Organizers bring in actors and creators from popular TV shows, movies and video games with a superhero theme. At the event, they interact with attendees, through Q&As and meet and greets.
Similar to ComicCon, some who attended ChosenCon dressed in era costumes portraying their favorite character.
In interviews with Fox News, people explained why the series is so popular:
“What ‘The Chosen’ does that’s so great is that it humanizes [Jesus],” said Melissa. “I think past portrayals of Jesus… there just wasn’t that additional personality. ‘The Chosen’ has him laughing, crying with his friends, [and] enjoying life, whereas other depictions… were just more blank and blasé.“
Joanna, who was dressed in the costume of her favorite character added that people see Jesus in a different light.
“He gets hungry, he gets cold, he gets thirsty…,” she said. “They see a different side of him, so they can connect to him better than [they] can with all these old shows.”
Concerns about ‘The Chosen’
But some have also expressed reservations about the popular series.
In a Q&A at a Apologetics Canada event last year, Christian Apologist Wes Huff was asked what he thought of The Chosen. Huff said that he knows people who both love and hate the series.
Though he was generally positive, Huff did express some concerns.
“I had a friend who started watching ‘The Chosen,’ and the way he described it to me was that when he started reading his Bible…he started picturing Jonathan Roumie,” Huff explained. Roumie portrays Christ in the series.
Huff also added that not everything, that we see on The Chosen, actually took place.
“And I think that I know people who have really benefited from looking at the artistic license in something like ‘The Chosen,’ and I know people who, in their minds, for better or for worse, have started confusing the source material,” Huff said.
Popular Christian YouTuber, Ruslan KD, was also part of the Q&A. He believes the benefits of the series far outweighs any potential negatives.
“The data shows that ‘The Chosen’ is driving people to read the Bible more, not less, which I think is a massive net positive,” Ruslan said.
With its sixth season scheduled for the fall, The Chosen has been viewed over 250 million times since it was released in the fall of 2019. It has also been translated into 125 languages. All five seasons are available on Amazon Prime or through the Angel Studio App.
