One of the odder judgments found in the Book of Revelation involves the turning of the seas and rivers into blood-like red.

This particular judgment is mentioned in Revelation 16, when the angels pour out the seven bowls of wrath.

In verses three and four, we read when the second angel pours out his bowl of wrath upon the sea and the third on the springs and rivers, they will turn blood red.

Biblically, the appearance of blood red water is a sign of impending judgment. This is due to its connection to the first Egyptian plague, when God turned the Nile water blood red during Israel’s exodus out of Egypt (Exodus 7:17-18).

So this leads to an interesting article in the Daily Mail, where social media is filled with videos and photos of the Persian Gulf turning red.

Many commenters pointed to these verses in Revelation that show red waters are part of the end times judgment.

In Iran’s case, the red water is due to the run off taking place on the island of Hormuz earlier this week. The island’s soil is distinctly red because of heavy concentrations of Iron oxide

The winter rains have turned the rivers and waterfalls pouring into the Persian gulf blood red. The red oxide is so concentrated in the sea water and sand, that locals are using it to paint their faces red.

Whether this is part of the end times prophecy that the apostle John warned about is difficult to know.

But this is not the only occurrence of blood-red water recently.

In an article for Charisma News, James Lasher cited other appearances of red around the world.

This included Israel’s Sea of Galilee turning blood red in August because of algae that turns red in intense sunlight.

According to the Daily Mail, as people watched the red waves rolling on to the shore, some started “comparing the eerie transformation to the 10 plagues God inflicted on the Egyptians.”

Then in the US, individuals using Google Earth noticed the appearance of a dark red formation just north of Sante Fe, New Mexico.

The image posted on X has been viewed over 2 million times. Geologists have suggested that like what happened in Iran, the red coloration may be due to heavy iron concentrations.

On an unrelated note, people across the UK have been baffled by the appearance of distinctly pink fog, the Daily Mail reports.

According to Britain’s weather office, this spooky phenomena takes place as sun rays pass through multiple layers of dust and water hovering in the air. This filters out the blue spectrum, leaving red as the predominant color. It is the same effect that produces our colorful sunsets.

It is difficult to know if these incidents are tied to the judgments listed in Revelation chapter 16.

If not, there are indicators in this chapter that we may be getting close to this time.

We are told in verses 8-9 and verse 12 of the bowls of wrath being poured out by the fourth and sixth angels.

The fourth angel pours a bowl of wrath on the sun, causing it to become very hot. The sixth angel poured his bowl on the Euphrates River causing it to completely dry up.

Recently, there have been severe warnings of how the Euphrates water level has hit historic lows. This is due to the intense drought impacting the region and human mismanagement of the water resources.

Some Iranian cities are facing such a severe water shortages that government officials are warning they will need to be evacuated if the winter rains do not sufficiently replenish reservoirs.

While we have not yet seen the Euphrates River completely dried up, there are indicators we are slowly heading down that road.
