After the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, Sept 10, 2025, we are seeing an unexpected result.

While one would typically expect the Christian voice to be muted, particularly on university campuses, the opposite seems to be taking place.

In what is being described as a looming revival, 65 people were saved and over 80 water baptized at Christian outreach at the University of Pittsburgh, CBN reports.

Some stated that the  “presence of God was tangible” at the meeting.

The research university based in Pittsburgh has a student population of 28,000. It is estimated that approximately 6oo people attended the “Pitt for Jesus” meeting held at Mazeroski Field on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The outreach was initiated by a student-athlete group called Pitt Purpose (PP). It formed after the Holy Spirit moved on the university’s football team. This resulted in several team members committing their life to Christ. About 25% of the team attend Life Church, pastored by Adam Miller who helped organize the event.

Since its formation, the group has been holding weekly Bible studies and prayer meetings at the university.

But, as God moved the group’s vision began to grow.

“If God can touch a football team, then He could touch a campus. And if He could touch a campus, we think He could touch a city. If you could touch a city we believe that He could touch a state…if He could touch a state, He could touch a country,” explained PP leader, Jake Overman in an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette..

Overman also plays tight end for the school’s football team.

Believing that God wanted to impact more students, the group worked with several Christian organizations to hold the outreach.

Several members of the football team gave their testimony at the meeting. This included Overman and as well, offensive lineman Caleb Holmes and Joey Zelinsky, who plays on the defensive line.

The hunger we’re seeing in this next generation is twofold. Number one, that God is after this next generation. He loves them so much, and He just wants them to know what’s made available through Christ,” said Pastor Miller in an interview with Gazette. “And then two… there’s an increased desire to know spiritual things and to realize there’s more beyond this physical world.”

But one comment made by Overman caught my attention because it had prophetic overtones.

He told the Gazette, “As believers, we have to rise up and be bold in our faith — and there’s nobody better to do that than a football program on a campus.”

He is speaking of courage in the face of a very real and concerted effort to intimidate and quiet Christians in the public space.

In his vision of the end times, the Apostle John saw the emergence of new breed of Christians in the end times who did not fear death:

11 And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. (Revelation 12:11 NASV)
