Have you heard about the news that hasn’t happened yet?
I’m not talking about Bible Prophecy, but about an article from a secular journalist, who sees something big coming soon. An article from “Time”, a world class source of journalism, tells us that “WorldPride is about to collide with Donald Trump’s Washington.”
Whatever your opinion is about a celebration called “WorldPride” and whatever you think about Donald Trump, it is strange to report something that has not happened yet.
Usually, a reporter “reports” about something that has already happened, and then that past event can be analyzed and discussed, and argued about.
I don’t think this prediction reporting, almost like prophecy, is bad journalism. It is a picture of the strange times that we are living in. Some things are obvious before they happen, and we need to understand.
The world around us is changing. Brace yourself.
If you want to see the article from “Time”, here is a link:
So, an organization that identifies as “WorldPride”, a group that promotes the cause of homosexual, trans-sexual, and related beliefs, is planning a major rally in the capital of the United States, Washington D.C. This will happen over a period of days, and possibly weeks, and it is supposed to make a statement to the whole world.
On the other side, Donald Trump is now the re-elected President of the United States, and some people predict that he will react severely, against the “WorldPride” demonstrations. Journalists who understand both sides, predict a clash.
This clash is predicted for the early summer of 2025, and by the time you read this, the event might be history. You might know more than me, as I write this today.
So, what is the lesson for us?
There are at least three names for the danger that is coming on us: fundamentalism, polarization, and received orthodoxy.
I just read those words to someone, and they have no idea what I am trying to say, so let me explain.
Fundamentalism:
People strongly believe something, so strongly that they can’t tolerate other people, with different ideas. I recently heard about this from Alistair Begg, a Christian pastor whose sermons are often on the radio.
If you hear him speak, he has a Scottish accent. Alistair Begg spoke about people who strongly believe in the atheistic theory of evolution. For them it’s not a theory, it’s a fact that cannot be disputed. Imagine how they feel about a Bible-reading Christian who believes in God’s creation. The radio preacher gave some intelligent comments.
Imagine the “fundamentalism” that the journalist can see in the “WorldPride” clash that might come on us.
Polarization:
The two poles on our planet are as far apart as possible. Modern culture is becoming like that too. Those other people are like aliens from another planet.
Received Orthodoxy:
We can easily come to believe that everyone must think like us, and believe what our side believes, our “orthodox” ideas. Nothing else can be tolerated.
The expert journalists can see us becoming fundamentalist, polarized, and orthodox, and they can predict the intolerance and fighting that we are moving into.
This should not surprise anyone who reads the Bible. Two thousand years ago, the first Christians were on the wrong side of the polarization, and they often paid with their lives.
We are warned, in the Bible, that anyone who follows Jesus, can experience persecution; fundamentalism, polarization, and received orthodoxy:
… which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Timothy 3: 11 to 13)
We are not told that there will be an end to this persecution, unless God rescues us. This warning applies to us today.
It is possible that the WorldPride activists, and the U.S. Government will somehow compromise, and a violent interaction will not happen, but the experts predict the danger.
Our modern culture has drifted in that direction and there will be a cost for anyone who doesn’t conform to the “truth” of the moment.
Tolerance is dying, in our times.
It is also true, that the early Christian church expanded rapidly, when it was persecuted, but the Christians felt the pain. According to the Bible, modern believers will have the same experience. Jesus himself told us about this:
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:10-12)
The experts are warning us that these old ideas are not so strange, anymore.
