In an interview with Gary Lineker, who hosts BBC’s Premier League Show, Jürgen Klopp made an interesting statement about his faith, Premier Christian News reports.
Kloop, who is German and a believer in Jesus, coaches the Liverpool Football Club, in the UK’s Premier League.
“The problem is I’m a Christian,” Kloop told Lineker. “That [in itself] is not a problem, but the problem is I think other people can have success too – it’s not about me.”
His desire to see others succeed and do well really struck me. This is because it fits a prophetic word that the prophet Jeremiah gave to the Jews who were in Babylonian captivity after King Nebuchadnezzar sacked Jerusalem and destroyed the temple in 586 BC.
Jeremiah told the Jews, who were now living in foreign cities, to “seek the prosperity of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord in its behalf; for in its prosperity will be your prosperity” (Jeremiah 29:7 NASV)
God desired for the Jews to seek the betterment of others, and this would include many who were not believers in God.
Kloop, who has been the popular head coach of Liverpool since 2015, led the team to a league championship in 2019-20. He was also nominated as the Premier League’s manager of the year that same year, an award he also won while coaching in Germany in 2011-12.
Over the years, Kloop has spoken often of his faith.
“To be a believer, but not to want to talk about it – I do not know how it would work! If anyone asks me about my faith, I give information,” Kloop said in an interview with fr-online.de.
“Not because I have claim to be any sort of missionary. But when I look at me and my life – and I take time for that every day – then I feel I am in sensationally good hands.”
