The Barn at Grace Hill is a beautiful rural facility near Newton, Kansas, used to hold weddings. Over the past four years, it has received a resounding, 4.7 star (out of five) for those who have rented the facility for their wedding.
But, it has recently been the target of criticism, after a lesbian couple asked about holding their same-sex wedding at the facility, Todd Starnes writes.
Had the owners refused to rent their facility to the couple?
No, in fact, they had agreed to do it.
What caused the outrage was that though the quaint barn could be rented for the wedding, the owners stated they would not participate in the celebration because of their religious beliefs.
“While our deeply held religious belief keeps us from celebrating anything but marriage between a man and woman, we desire to serve everyone equally and do not want to keep anyone from using our building who would like to,” wrote Amanda Balzer, who co-owns the venue.
“Our hearts are to serve, regardless of race, creed, color, origin, sexual orientation, gender or marital status, while maintaining our convictions and beliefs as well,” Amanda continued.
One of the members of same-sex couple posted Balzer’s response to their query about renting the facility on social media, expressing how deeply hurt she was that the owners would not be celebrating their wedding with them.
Others quickly chimed in, outraged that the owners would not endorse same-sex marriage.
“The owners of the Barn at Grace Hill learned a very important lesson,” wrote Todd Starnes. “The Alphabet Activists demand full compliance with their way of life.”
