With chaos enveloping the world, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that people are turning to the Bible.

In its annual report, the popular online Bible app, YouVersion, announced that it set a new annual record with 100 million versions of its apps downloaded on devices in 2023, Evangelical Focus reports.

This beat the previous annual record set in 2020 when its apps were downloaded 75 million times.

YouVersion also announced that each month of 2023 set a new monthly record for the number of apps that were downloaded and as well for the number of people who were daily reading the Bible. Daily Bible reading by users was up 20% over the previous year.

The data also showed that over 80% of the new installations are coming from outside the US, with Latin America, India, and Africa leading the pack.

The popular Bible app was first introduced in 2008 by Life.Church, a multi-site church headquartered in Edmond, Oklahoma, pastored by Greg Groeschel.

In addition to its original Bible app, YouVersion has since developed Bible App Lite for international readers and Bible App for Kids.

Perhaps not surprisingly, for the third year in a row, Isaiah 41:10 was also YouVersion’s most highlighted verse.
