According to the US Census Bureau, the state of New York saw the largest population decline of any state in the US, the New York Post reports.

Over 102,000 more people left the state than migrated to it between July 2022 and July 2023, making it only one of eight states in the United States to report a population decline.

According to reports, the main reasons people are leaving is because of politics which has contributed to skyrocketing crime, disruptive protests, and an increasing cost of living.

California was the state with the second-largest decline, reporting a population loss of 75,000. Similar to New York, residents are fleeing the state because of rampant crime, homelessness, increasing taxes, and a rising post of living.

Similar to New York, the people fleeing California are taxpayers, and this is starting to impact the tax revenues of both states.

The states reporting the largest population increase over the same period were Texas (475K increase) and Florida (365K increase). They were followed by North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina to round out the top five.
