According to a report just released by the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe (OIDAC Europe), the number of attacks on Christians in Europe in 2022 increased by 44% over 2021, Breitbart reports.
This ranges from attacks on social media to violent personal attacks to church arson.
The number of hate crimes against Christians not only increased in volume but the level of violence seems to be growing as well.
There were 519 reported cases of hate crimes against Christians in 2021. This rose to 748 in 2022 and included the murder of three Christians because of their faith. The number of arson attacks on churches increased from 60 to 105 over the same period.
OIDAC Europe, which monitors the persecution of Christians across Europe, stated that these are only the cases reported to the police and the actual numbers are undoubtedly higher.
The three countries reporting the highest level of Christian hate crimes were Germany which had 231 incidents, Italy with 146, and France at 106.
The organization released the data as part of its annual report on Christian persecution. It added that there has been a year-over-year increase in hate crimes against Christians over the past ten years.
In its report, OIDAC Europe also expressed concern about the number of European governments that are accusing Christians of ‘hate speech’ because of their religious beliefs.
