Nicaragua has a population of 6.4 million and there are reports from two missionary groups that the Holy Spirit is moving in that country, CBN reports.

In a coordinated effort, Mountain Gateway and Shake the Nations Ministries have been holding outreaches and evangelism campaigns across the country in 2023.

According to their reports about 650,000 Nicaraguans have attended these meetings resulting in tens of thousands committing their lives to Christ.

Britt Hancock works with Mountain Gateway and in a recent interview with CBN said that God spoke to him about launching an outreach in that country, suggesting that the time was right for a move of God.

“Then, He really spoke to me. He told me, ‘Son, I’ve decided to do something in Nicaragua, and if you’ll just say, ‘Yes,’ you’re going to watch me do something,’” Britt said.

“We’ve had people baptized in the Holy Spirit spontaneously. We’ve had people come out of wheelchairs,” Britt added. “You name it, every class of miracle – lame walking, deaf ears opened, blinded eyes opened.”

But significantly something else has happened, there also seems to have been a significant shift politically and the government is actually aiding the evangelism effort.

“We’ve had so many miracles, the government has decided to give us the national plaza, ‘Plaza de la Fe’ it’s called, which will hold about 300,000 people,” Britt told CBN. “If the trend continues, it’s just going to fill up with people.” 

The country has been governed by a left-wing dictator Daniel Ortega since he came to power in 2007. Ortega, who called himself a professing atheist, initially embraced a radical left-wing agenda.

However, in recent years there has been a marked spiritual and political shift in Ortega’s beliefs.

Wikipedia explains:

“In later years, Ortega’s left-wing radical politics cooled significantly, leading him to pursue pro-business^[1] policies and even rapprochement with the Catholic Church. As a part of this, his government adopted strong anti-abortion policies, and his rhetoric took on a new, strongly religious tenor, despite formerly having professed atheism.^[2]“

These types of shifts typically do not take place unless God has chosen to bind the satanic strongman over the nation (Mark 3:27-29).

While in Persian captivity, Daniel had entered an extended period of prayer and fasting because he sensed there was a great conflict, literally warfare, brewing in the country (Daniel 10:1).

I suspect Daniel was thinking more along the lines of a physical war than a spiritual one.

After this period of warfare prayer, Daniel was visited by an Angel of God, who revealed three critical things that were taking place in the spiritual realm.

First, the godly angel said he had been delayed for three weeks from delivering a message to Daniel because the Prince of Persia had hindered him. The Prince of Persia was the satanic strongman who was controlling Persia at the time. However, the godly angel was finally able to break through when the archangel Michael joined the fight (Daniel 10:12-13).

Secondly, the angel stated that after this meeting with Daniel, he was returning to fight the Prince of Persia. In other words, there was still an unfinished war brewing in the spiritual realm (Daniel 10:20).

Thirdly, the angel then revealed the significant political role that he was now taking in the country.

The angel told Daniel,  ““In the first year of Darius the Mede, I arose to be of assistance and a protection for him” (Daniel 11:1 NASV).

While the NASV states that the angel ‘arose,’ in the Hebrew it suggests that the Angel of God was now standing beside the Kings of Persia.

In this important place of influence, the godly angel was assisting, strengthening, and protecting the Kings of Persia.

This invisible influence was all emanating from the spiritual realm. It also implies that prior to this, the satanic Prince of Persia probably held this influential role.

The godly angel was not only protecting the King from his ungodly counselors but also the influence of the satanic realm.

Because of this godly guidance, the Persian King Cyrus allowed the Jews taken captive by the Babylonians to return home to the Promised Land.

It is a testament that believers have the ability to change both the spiritual and political climate of a country, as both are often related, through prayer and fasting.
