An Illinois court has just awarded a Christian schoolgirl $150,000 plus legal fees after she was coerced into participating in Hindu rituals at a public school in Chicago, CBN reports.

The case ended up in court after teachers pressured Mariyah Green to participate in a Hindu Puja initiation rite, that was part of a Quiet Time exercise at the school.

The program was introduced to Chicago schools by the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. According to Green’s lawyers, this organization along with the University of Chicago benefited financially from this arrangement.

The rites included expressing statements about the power of Hindu gods and asking to channel the power of these deities.

When Green told teachers she did not want to participate, she was threatened with reduced grades that could potentially impact her ability to play on the school basketball team and participate in the school’s graduation ceremonies.

“Mariyah Green’s Christian faith and her dedication to Jesus Christ makes the worship of others, such as these idols, unthinkable,” said John Mauck who served as Green’s attorney.

“Therefore, on the second day of this training in Transcendental Meditation, Mariyah told the instructor that her knee was injured in order to avoid kneeling before the image of a man in a photograph on a table in the middle of the room, that she described as looking like Buddha,” Mauck added.
