A Christian evangelist in Uganda was killed after leading several people including Muslims to Jesus at an evangelistic rally, Morning Star News reports.

The 33-year-old evangelist, Philip Bere, was riding home on his bicycle with his assistant after the meeting when he was accosted by several men. Bere was pulled off his bike, and one of the assailants then bashed his head with a large rock.

His assistant, Mudenya Sirasi, said as they rode along in the evening they were attacked by men who were hiding in the bushes along both sides of the road.

Sirasi, who was able to flee the scene and hide under a nearby bridge, added that the men who attacked Bere had mentioned this was the man who had converted Muslims to Christ and said he needed to be killed.

Located in East Central Africa, Uganda has a population of 48 million people. While only 14% of the population is Muslim, they are concentrated in the eastern part of the country where Bere was preaching the gospel.

Bere had gained a reputation for his effectiveness in leading Muslims to Jesus.
