With Sound of Freedom smashing box office expectations with over $174 million in ticket sales, it shouldn’t surprise us that another rarity has occurred in the media. A Christian radio station has become the most listened-to radio station in Minneapolis, MinnPost reports.

With 11.6% of the region’s listeners in July 2023, KTIS, which features Christian artists such as For King and Country and Phil Wickman, beat out the city’s top rock and roll, talk radio and country stations for the number one spot.

The MinnPost even noted that more people were listening to KTIS than three other of the city’s popular radio stations combined, MyTalk 107, Cities 97, and WCCO Radio.

In fact, it has been the most listened-to station in the region for several months running, an all the more impressive accomplishment considering the Twin Cities is the 15th largest radio market in the US.

The non-profit station is owned by a Christian school, the University of Northwestern in Roseville. It follows a format similar to commercial radio with live hosts, compared to other Christian radio stations that often feed in outside programming.

However, KTIS differs from commercial radio in that it does not sell advertising relying instead on sponsorships.

In 2020, KTIS was the second most listened-to radio station in Minneapolis, and according to MinnPost, reached the number one spot in April this year. Since then its numbers have steadily grown, and by July, KTIS had significantly increased its lead over its closest rival KS95.
