According to a report by Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a Christian church in India was attacked by a group of men who were part of a Sikh warrior order, Christian Post reports.
The group dressed in the blue uniforms traditionally worn by Sikh warriors were armed with spears and swords.
They attacked members who were attending a service of Rana Ministries church located near Amritsar City in the Sikh-dominated state of Punjab.
Several members of the church were injured in the attack, which was eventually stopped after police were called in.
The attackers also vandalized cars and ripped up Bibles.
Officials with the Warrior sect of Sikhs, also known as Nihangs, have denied any involvement in the attack.
The Sikh religion was formed in the 15th century under Guru Nanak. It breaks from Hinduism in that it is a monotheistic religion that believes in one immortal being.
Sikhs must follow the tradition set down by Guru Nanak and the nine Gurus who followed him.
Male members who often wear turbans are required to have the five ks with them at all times.
This includes:
- Having uncut hair known as a kesh, usually covered by a turban;
- Wearing a kara or steel bracelet;
- Having a knife, kirpan, tucked in their waist band;
- Wearing a cotton undergarment known as a kachera; and
- Having a kanga, small wooden comb.
