Despite secularists and left-wing activists trying to banish the church into a dark corner of irrelevancy, God will find a way to get the message of Jesus out to the world.
Over the past three weeks, two rocks stars, though one is probably more a pop star and another a hip hop artist, put God and faith front and center.
But I call them rock stars for a reason.
It’s a play on what Jesus said as He entered Jerusalem riding a colt on what would be His final trip. As the Lord entered the city, people were crying out “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord”, and the pharisees in the crowds were trying to quieten everyone and finally yelled out for Jesus to order his disciples to quit shouting out (Luke 19:28-47).
Jesus responded that if they didn’t cry out, then the rocks would.
The lesson of this story is very simple. If society tries to marginalize the church, then God will find unusual and unexpected ways to get the message of Jesus out.
The two rocks that cried out over the past few weeks were hip hop Kanye West and a pop star Justin Bieber.
Having sold over 140 million albums, Kanye West is one of the best-selling singers in America. He has also received 21 Grammy’s and some consider him one of the most prominent artists in America.
I have previously reported how Kanye, who is married to Kim Kardashian, has been holding church services around Los Angeles, his home town. But this past weekend, Kanye ended up preaching at a New Birth Missionary Baptist church in Atlanta. It was a combination worship service, singing and preaching.
The stories about his sermon ended up on several secular news sites — Fox News, The Blaze, MSN and of course people were speaking about it on social media.
According to Fox News, Kanye gave the believers this advice:
“Let’s not be concerned with the opinions of men at all. Only the opinion of God. I know we say this is the culture or that is the culture. To be radically in service to Christ is the only culture that I want to know about.”
Then at the end of August, CBN had a story on how mega pop star Justin Bieber was leading a worship at a church service in California. Located in Beverly Hills, Churchome is part of a group of churches started by Judah Smith who Justin considers his personal pastor.
TMZ even managed to get a video of the worship service:
Despite having performed before thousands, Bieber admitted he was nervous leading his first worship service.
Justin has over 107 million followers on Twitter and a 119 million followers on Instagram where he is not shy about sharing his faith.
As the world tries to stifle the church, God will raise people up to get his message out. But mega music stars are just the tip of the iceberg.
God wants to raise you up as well in your area of influence, whether it is work or some social activity that you are passionate about.
God will anoint you and I believe even give you a leadership influence so the Lord’s message will be heard.
