Many wonder if we have entered the end times leading up to Christ’s second coming. Whether we are in this era or not is hard to say.

But many of the Biblical books have prophecies looking ahead to the coming Day of the Lord. These provided very visual descriptions of what would take place in the days leading up to Christ’s return.

I recently saw a couple of ominous headlines this week that suggests that these days are close.

Here is the Daily Mail headline: Scientists warn one of world’s supervolcanoes is awakening: ‘It will plunge the planet into chaos.’

Scientists are warning that one of the earth’s super-volcanoes located in Italy may be wakening, the Daily Mail reports.

Campi Flegrei is located near Naples, along the western coast of Italy. Scientists are warning that there are signs that magma is building up beneath this super-volcano.

Over the past six months, there have been over 3,000 small earthquakes in the area. This far exceeds the number of earthquakes typically experienced in this region. It also included a 4.4 magnitude earthquake in May, which is the largest earthquake recorded at the site in the last four decades.

Earthquakes not only suggest that lava is moving beneath the surfaces, but they also crack and weaken the magma chamber holding the lava back.

The amount of gas being released by the volcano has also sharply increased. It is estimated to be upwards of 5,000 tons daily and this suggests the magma is moving upwards.

The ground in the area has also been rising for the past 20 years. The nearby town of Pozzuoli has risen nearly 4.7 feet over the past few years. This swelling indicates the magma is building up beneath the surface.

If Campi Flegrei were to erupt it would not only devastate the surrounding area where four million people live. But the ash, from the eruption could darken the sun potentially affecting crops around the world. Scientists say ‘It will plunge the planet into chaos.’

As a side note a 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit the US town of Soda Springs, Idaho on Friday, May 23, 2025. It is located near one of the earth’s other super-volcanoes located in Yellowstone park.

In the lead up to the great and awesome day of the Lord, the Prophet Joel warned of multiple volcanic eruptions, that would darken the sun:

I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire, and columns of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. (Joel 2:30-31 NASV)

Scientist warn of three city-killing asteroids

Here is the New York Post headline: 3 city-killing asteroids could strike Earth within weeks — generating a million times more energy than Hiroshima atomic bomb.

Researchers from Brazil’s Valerio Carruba of São Paulo University are warning of the potential danger of three asteroids, the New York Post reports.

Known as 2020 SB, 524522 and 2020 CL1, the three asteroids are currently orbiting Venus,

In their article published in “Astronomy & Astrophysics.”, the researchers added that Venus has about 20 asteroids circling it.

But they noticed that the orbits of these three in particular are becoming unstable. They added it would not take much for them to spin off towards earth.

If this happened they would arrive in a matter of weeks. Because of their trajectory, astronomers would not see them as they would travel along the “interstellar blind spot.” This means they would come in directly from the sun, making them nearly impossible to detect.

The three asteroids range between 300 feet to 1,300 feet in size. They would literally destroy whole cities if they hit earth. The resulting explosions would be a million times more powerful than Hiroshima.

In the book of Revelation, the Apostle John warned of asteroid strikes. The most obvious one was the mountain-sized asteroid mentioned in Revelation 8:8-9. John saw it hitting one of the earth’s oceans wiping out a third of the ships.

But this group of three fits an earlier description found in Revelation 6:13-17.

In this passage, John saw multiple stars hitting earth. He compared it to figs hitting the ground after a tree is hit with a powerful wind.

John noticed these multiple hits would cause so much fear that “kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.”
