Over this past weekend, Academy Award winning actor, Denzel Washington, was not only water baptized, but he also received his ministry license, CBN reports.
It all took place at First Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ Eastern New York.
During the event that was live-streamed on Facebook, Denzel spoke about a prophecy he received when he was 20 years old. His dad was pastoring a Pentecostal church at the time.
Denzel was sitting in his mother’s beauty shop, when Ruth Green, a lady from the church with the gift of prophecy entered and gave Denzel, a prophetic word:
“She said, ‘Boy, you are going to travel the world and preach to millions of people,’ She wouldn’t even spell the word prophecy. My mother wrote the word prophecy … 50 years later, look at God. If He can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit and there’s no limit to the sky.”
Over the years, Denzel has been public about his faith and has made faith statements that have undoubtedly already been read or heard by millions of people around the world.
But by receiving his ministry license, which is a process, it suggests that Denzel is considering more ministry type of activities in the future.
This is intriguing because Denzel will turn 70 on December 28th, meaning he received this when he was 69. It also seems that Denzel looks at this license as the fulfillment of the prophecy he received in his mother’s beauty shop.
It reminds me of Caleb, who’s most important spiritual achievement, did not take place when he was 40 or 50. In fact, when Caleb turned 70, his most important spiritual accomplishment was still 15 years ahead of him.
When he was 85 years old, Caleb entered the Promised Land under Joshua and claimed his mountain (Joshua 14:6-15).
Over the years, Denzel has spoken about various spiritual encounters. This included being filled with the Holy Spirit in the 1980s, while attending West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles at the invitation of actor Robert Townsend.
“I was filled with the Holy Ghost and it scared me,” Denzel admitted. “I didn’t want to go this deep…I wanted to party. It was a supernatural, once-in-a-lifetime experience that I couldn’t completely understand at the time.”
In an interview on Instagram, Denzel shared an incident that took place as he was reading his Bible and praying on a yacht.
“I was on a yacht listening to music and praying, and there was a song on called ‘The Face of God,’” Washington said. “And I prayed, ‘Lord, everyone’s singing about the face of God, and I want to see Your face.’ And then I heard, ‘Turn to your left.’”
When Denzel turned he pulled out his phone and took a picture of a distinctive face in the clouds.
