Another church, this time in Texas, has let AI (artificial intelligence), run a Sunday morning service, Premier Christian News reports.

Violet Crown City Church, located in Austin, is pastored by Jay Cooper.

When Cooper initially asked ChatGPT to create the service on that Sunday morning, it ended up being only 15 minutes long, so he requested the AI program to ‘beef-up’ the service.

In the end, AI not only provided the sermon, but also developed the order of the prayers, took the offering, created a communion liturgy, and provided five songs (including an original song written for the service).

It seems that many attending what was described as a one-time event were not all that impressed by the service. They stated that it seemed to lack an emotional, human touch.

Not surprisingly Violet Crown City Church is a liberal church and part of the United Methodist denomination.

As reported in June this year, AI was also used to lead a service at St. Paul’s Church in Fürth, Bavaria, Germany. This included providing an avatar to actually deliver the sermon.
