It seems that New Orleans Saints linebacker, Demario Davis, preached a mini-sermon instead of answering questions about his outstanding play in a news conference following the Saints’ recent 16-15 victory over the Tennessee Titans, CBN reports.
Instead of discussing his outstanding defensive performance that included nine individual tackles, Davis, 34, talked about what really mattered to him, the healing of his 4-year-old daughter, Carly-Faith.
Davis started by quoting from Revelation 3:20:
“See, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him and eat with him and he with Me.”
The outstanding linebacker who played in the NFL Pro Bowl in 2022, said his daughter, who was diagnosed with a rare cancer, retinoblastoma in 2020, was at a friend’s house when she suffered a severe epileptic seizure that lasted over 30 minutes.
Carly-Faith has been free of the cancer for about two years and the epileptic attack caught the family totally off guard.
His wife traveled with their daughter in the ambulance, and as Davis followed behind in the car he started praying.
“And the word says who Jesus is and He is knocking at the door. All you got to do is get up. On the way (to the hospital) I’m nervous,” Davis continued. “I’m praying and I’m trusting and I’m believing. I’m not [just] asking for my daughter to make it through – I’m asking that she’s better than before.”
It was only after they arrived at the hospital, that Davis found out his daughter had stopped breathing twice in the ambulance.
“You start to fear there could be development issues that could mess with her brain,” Davis told the news reporters. “So we prayed, and we prayed, and she had medicine and my wife and I had to stay overnight at the hospital. And in the middle of the night, probably about 3 o’clock, I heard a knock – and the knock was my daughter.”
Davis noted that it typically takes a couple of days for a person to fully recover from these types of seizures, but his daughter was talking clearer than she had before the seizure.
There was no stuttering, and you would never have known what she had just gone through.
Davis then prayed for his daughter before the hospital staff urged her to go back to bed:
“God, let this just be an attack from the enemy that’s just trying to be a distraction and let him have overplayed his hand and my daughter come back stronger than before,’” Davis asked.
The next day his daughter who continued her remarkable recovery was released from the hospital and back playing with friends.
“We get to play this game and it’s great. And there’s so many amazing things that happened in that game and everybody wants to hear about them,” Davis continued. “But when we leave this game we go back to being regular people and regular people are living life and people are waiting for a knock. … God gave me just what I asked for, plus some. I was blown away.”
Davis finished the interview with the words, ‘Praise God’ as he walked off the stage.
