A group calling itself Denver Communists is targeting a Christian-run coffee shop in order to close it down because of the owner’s views on homosexuality, Faithwire reports.

Drip Café was started earlier this year in Denver by Recycle God’s Love an organization dedicated to helping the homeless. The group seeks to provide both spiritual and mental health counseling and mentoring to the homeless as well as providing real jobs through its café.

However, Drip Café became the target of protests in June when it opened because of a post on Recycle God’s Love (RGL) website that revealed it held a Biblical position on homosexuality.

Jamie Sanchez, who founded RGL, stated that though they don’t agree with their lifestyle choices, they don’t hate gay people.

“I want the world to know the love of Jesus Christ through our love. The Drip Café has a purpose to help people who live on the fringes of society and who have been outcast,” Sanchez said in an interview with the Christian Post. “We have not shown any hate towards anyone, although this group has been showing hate to us.”

However, that apparently isn’t enough, and the Denver Communists have organized regular protests every Saturday morning at the café to try to stop people from entering.

The protestors, who often bring signs that read “God is a f–” and “Enough Christian Dictatorship,” also use a bullhorn to intimidate and berate people who are interested in entering the restaurant.

People trying to enter the café have also reported being spit upon and shoved.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the Denver Communist group revealed its political motives for the protest writing:

Drip is bound up with a network of far-right filth. Their previous supporters included a youth minister from an anti-abortion church, a failed anti-abortionist Republican candidate for state rep, and some asshole who directed threats of violence and lewd sexual gestures toward gay rights protestors.

Sanchez added that the continued protests are starting to have an impact and sales are down:

Their goal is to scare away any customers that might want to walk in the door by spreading misinformation about who we are, essentially. They show up every Saturday morning and then they also show up in a larger number on the first Fridays of each month, which is supposed to be our biggest day of sales.”

Though Sanchez tried talking to the leaders of the Denver Communist group to negotiate some type of peace, the group has publicly stated that it will not stop until the restaurant is closed.
