At a powerlifting event in Canada this past weekend, a trans woman (born a biological male), Anne Andres, set a Canadian record for weightlifting, Fox News reports.

Andres scored 597.5 in combined points in the bench, squat, and deadlift, beating the second-place finisher, SuJan Gill, a biological female, by 200 kg

Andres also unofficially set the world record in the women’s category.

In an interview with Talk TV, April Hutchinson, a biological female and competitor at the event, said that Andres’ participation was ‘completely unfair’ to women who have trained for years for these events.

“It’s completely unfair. It’s bodies that play sports, not identities. Remember, bodies are biology, not identities that play sports,” Hutchison said.

Hutchinson added Andre’s participation resulted in women pulling out of the event.

Speaking about the Canadian powerlifting rules, Hutchinson also noted:

My boyfriend could basically walk in tomorrow, identify as a female, compete, and then the next day, go back to being a man again. No proof, no ID required, just basically going on how you feel that day or whatever gender you want to it.”
