After returning from their Babylonian captivity, the Jews led by Nehemiah and Ezra set out to rebuild the both the city of Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple.

These were tough days. Many people were willing to violently oppose the rebuild while others were taking a more subtle approach and mocking their efforts in order to sow unbelief among the Jews.

In the midst of this, God sent the prophet Zechariah with a word for Zerubbabel who was heading the temple construction that they were not to despise the days of small beginnings because God’s Spirit can transform the smallest beginnings into something big:

This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’
Says the Lord of hosts. …

“The hands of Zerubbabel
Have laid the foundation of this temple;
His hands shall also finish it.
Then you will know
That the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you.
10 For who has despised the day of small things?
For these seven rejoice to see
The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel
. (Zechariah 4: 6, 9-10 NIV)

And the story is no more true than for Mignon Francois who in 2006 was the mother of six children living in poverty in Nashville, TN, when similar to Zerubbabel, God spoke to her about doing one ‘small’ thing with her last $5, God TV reports.

God said that she should take her last $5 and buy the ingredients to make cupcakes.

As she wrestled with this decision, God spoke encouraged her that even though this was her last $5, He would provide for her:

I feed birds, and they don’t toil a store up their barns. How much more will I feed you who looks like me?

Mignon obeyed the Holy Spirit’s urging and that $5 turned into $60 after she sold all the cupcakes she had made.

She then reinvested that $60 into producing more cupcakes and today she is the founder and CEO of The Cupcake Collection (TCC) that has sold five million cupcakes to individuals and businesses across America.

And because of her willingness to step out in faith, Mignon has received several distinctions including Tennessee State University’s “Woman of Legend and Merit”, “Emerging Business Leader of the Year” and Black Enterprise Magazine’s “Family Business of the Year Award.”
